2377.0. "Move parts of a FC off-node?" by CSOA1::LENNIG (Dave (N8JCX), MIG, Cincinnati) Mon Mar 08 1993 12:21

I have an ALL-IN-1 IOS account on an MTS machine. This account has both
document and disk quotas. Due to down-sizing, archiving is no longer
being offerred by the DIS staff.

What I am looking for is some way to move portions of my file cabinet
off this system onto my non-MTS private machine. The only two options
I can think of would be to somehow fake the archiving facility into
creating savesets that I could store someplace on my own (not ideal,
but acceptable) or to somehow move entire drawer(s) to another system.
(note that a fair number of the documents are mail messages which, as
I understand it, aren't stored in my personal directory).

I have no privs on this system, nor can I expect much help/support from
what remains of the IS staff, so whatever suggestions folks offer have
    to work within these constraints.

    Thanks,
    	Dave

    Hi,

Could you install ALL-IN-1 on your private machine? If so then you
could refile documents/folders from the MTS machine to your system.
This assumes that the MTS system has the license to allow Distributed
    Shared Filing.

    Cheers

    Stuart

Well, right now I have ALL-IN-1 Starter V2.4 on it, with an intention
to upgrade to a 'possible future release' of the Starter kit soon.

What would be the PAK product name for this so I can check the license
    database?

Also, would the 'Distributed Shared Filing' work to a hidden area node
(ie where I have to PMR through a pass-thru node?)

Lastly, would this option remove the documents from my local doc quota?

    Thanks,
    	Dave

No, you need to be able to create a direct DECnet link between
the two nodes. PMR is not supported. If you have ALL-IN-1 on the
middle node, then you could possibly set things up so that the
FileCab server on this middle node would broker your request (a
sort of RMR :-) but I'd have to work out how...

    Regards,
    Paul

Ok, assuming I can find a non-hidden node to act as the target, how
about the other questions in .2 (license etc)?

    I've received another suggestion to
    	create a seperate drawer
    	move stuff to it
<cab unshare them all to get private copies
    	backup the drawer subdirectory
    	delete the drawer
except I can't seem to do the <cab unshare from the overquota menu. sigh

    Grrrrr,
    	Dave
