2346.0. "Is there an ALL-IN-1 WRQ Reflection File Transfer program??" by TASTY::JEFFERY (The car behind is an ATOYOT) Tue Mar 02 1993 16:36

Hi,

I've been using Reflection, and am considering it as an ideal way for our
salesmen to log onto ALL-IN-1, and then transfer their files.

Their transfer program gives a list of the files in Windows format on the left,
and, after, a Show VMS Files, provides a list of files & directories on the
right.

None of these salesmen would be happy manipulating VMS Files, as they do not
have DCL privelige.

I have never done anything technical in ALL-IN-1, so I am asking as a naiive
person, if someone has done an ALL-IN-1 equivalent to this.

What I am thinking is that the upload program would interrogate the ALL-IN-1
File Cabinet, and provide a list of Folders/Documents. The user would drag &
drop files from DOS to ALL-IN-1, and the upload would read them in using the
appropriate WRQ program, and then place them into the correct ALL-IN-1 folder.

I am interested in preserving the nice user friendly interface that the
Reflection file transfer has, so Kermit would probably not be good enough.

I can't guarantee it, but what you describe sounds very much like the sort of
thing you can do with Pathworks / Teamlinks.

Just a suggestion...

Hi,

Walker Rich & Quinly (WRQ) also provide a program called DIRECT-TO-1 which
supports filetransfer to and from the ALL-IN-1 filecabinet

File formats which are supported are :

WPS-PLUS
WordPerfect
Lotus 1-2-3
DX
ect.

Regards,

Martin

Thanks,

does DIRECT-TO-1 work with Reflection 4 for Windows, and that rather snazzy
file transfer window?

I don't have any experience with Reflection 4 for Windows but after my opion
that's not a problem.

DIRECT-TO-1 is a product which consists of several ALL-IN-1 forms and scripts
which have to be installed using vmsinstal on the node on which ALL-IN-1 is
running.

Direct-to-1 uses the images VAXLINK.EXE or VAXLINK2.EXE and WRQINQ.EXE (these
images are part of the Reflection kit) to communicate with Reflection.

If Reflection for Windows also supports VAXLINK%.exe than it should work

However, please note that the Reflections software (and its variants?)
    has a rather troublesome characteristic.

When you do a generic 'binary' file transfer, it creates files on the
VAX with Variable length record attributes, not the typical FIX-512
expected by most Digital applications. That is, it takes the data
received from the remote system, and writes it to a file with record
control words specifying the length of the data segment received,
rather than packing it into blocks as "pure" data.

This has caused most of the mail products no end of headaches.
