| I can't guarantee it, but what you describe sounds very much like the sort of
thing you can do with Pathworks / Teamlinks.
Just a suggestion...

| Thanks,
does DIRECT-TO-1 work with Reflection 4 for Windows, and that rather snazzy
file transfer window?
Mark.

I don't have any experience with Reflection 4 for Windows but after my opion
that's not a problem.
DIRECT-TO-1 is a product which consists of several ALL-IN-1 forms and scripts
which have to be installed using vmsinstal on the node on which ALL-IN-1 is
running.
Direct-to-1 uses the images VAXLINK.EXE or VAXLINK2.EXE and WRQINQ.EXE (these
images are part of the Reflection kit) to communicate with Reflection.
If Reflection for Windows also supports VAXLINK%.exe than it should work

| However, please note that the Reflections software (and its variants?)
has a rather troublesome characteristic.
When you do a generic 'binary' file transfer, it creates files on the
VAX with Variable length record attributes, not the typical FIX-512
expected by most Digital applications. That is, it takes the data
received from the remote system, and writes it to a file with record
control words specifying the length of the data segment received,
rather than packing it into blocks as "pure" data.
This has caused most of the mail products no end of headaches.
