2241.1 | Try this | AIMTEC::WICKS_A | WALES 10 England 9 | Tue Feb 09 1993 22:09 | 16 |
| Janet,
How about customising the MAIL SEND function to do something like:
<MAIL EDIT/HEADER
<MAIL CC "your addess"
<MAIL SEND
or add a menu option called "Add Self" that does the first two steps.
Completely untested for syntax or logic errors though and it only deals
with mail you send out - were you asking about incoming mail too?
Regards,

2241.2 | Sounds good; how? | JANET::LORD | Our forgetteries are in fine working order. | Wed Feb 10 1993 13:59 | 12 |
| I just want a copy of everything I send by ALL-IN-1
to automatically be copied to another machine (actually to
a VAXmail account on a workstation, where I can keep mail
for months .vs. having to delete things to meet document
quotas).
Since I'm not a system manager, can I write a customized
MAIL SEND function just for myself? How?
Thanks!

| Janet,
You need to either use CM and be an application programmer or you might
be able to use the FD subsystem. You'll need copies of forms EMC...EMC3
and just edit the named data of the one that has SEND on it or whatever

2241.4 | As a quick solution, write a simple UDP to forward your OUTBOX to VMSmail | BRUMMY::MARTIN::BELL | Martin Bell, TCC, Birmingham UK | Wed Feb 10 1993 16:48 | 17 |
| Janet,
if this is Digital internal, why not solve the problem, and not the
symptoms, by getting you manager to formally request sufficient
quotas for you to perform your job, rather than bowing down to
petty internal restrictions.
This isn't the conference for trying to put right the bean counters,
but sometimes technical fixes don't solve the real problems!
Remember that your VMSmail won't maintain document formatting and
character attributes, can't understand non-ASCII or non-WPS-PLUS
attachments, and is probably going to be backed up less often than
your ALL-IN-1 account!

2241.5 | Geez, I guess I just want what I want!!! | JANET::LORD | Our forgetteries are in fine working order. | Wed Feb 10 1993 18:38 | 34 |
| OK, OK, if the truth be known, I'm a dyed-in-the-wool
VAXmail user.
Even if I got my document count expanded to a huge (for our
systems) number, it still wouldn't solve all the problems that
are easily solved by automatically sending a copy of my
outgoing mail to my workstation/VAXmail account.
I'm alreadying forwarding all incoming mail to VAXmail so I can
store it until the disk space on my workstation has run out (and
this has been useful on more than one occassion... you may not
agree with my reasons or strategy but it works for me). I have
a printer in my office attached to my VAXstation, which makes
printing needed mail messages very convient. I can extract the
messages into files and edit them with TPU, which I like. I can
search subject lines for strings and quickly get a list of
messages I'm interested in. I like VAXmail and the convenience
of my workstation environment.
However, I'm finding that many people prefer the A1 format (headers,
etc.) that VAXmail doesn't provide so I'm using it more than
I have in the past. And not having the facility (which
VAXmail has) of automatic CC (not needed in A1 because of
the folder structure, etc.) makes it more difficult to get the
copies of those messages where I want to have them... on my
workstation, in my VAXmail account.
I'd be more than willing to write a UDP to copy my OUTBOX
(or forward the messages or whatever) to VAXmail but I don't
have the training to do that. I'd rather solve the problem
when I'm sending the message initially, via an automatic
carbon copy.

2241.6 | How 'bout this... | PRMS00::TLIGHTON | Expectant Father - Handle With Care | Fri Feb 12 1993 17:22 | 8 |
| Gee, maybe I'm missing something here...it's not automatic, but it
seems pretty easy...when entering addresses, just put I as an address which
will send a copy to yourself. Since your mail is automatically forwarded to
your workstation, that's where you'll receive it. Maybe I've missed something,
but to me it seems like a pretty simple solution...
