2227.0. "Backup screwing-up form libraries" by NWGEDU::MACKNEY () Mon Feb 08 1993 10:39

    - got a strange occurance when backing up to another machine!

    I built a brand new system on a VAX3100 (VMS 5.5-2, ALL-IN-1 V3.0, MR3.2)

    After the installation everything seemed to work. The IVPs passed.

    I then backed up the system to the target machine (a VAX3900) using
    $BACKUP/IMAGE.

    After booting the 3900, logging into ALL-IN-1 gives the message:

    Obsolete version of DISK$A1DISK:[ALL-IN-1.LIB_llv]OAFORM.FLC; - Continuing

    Precompiling the form libraries eleviates the problem, but can anyone
    explain to me what causes it. (It is repeatable).

2227.1How it does itIOSG::DAVISMark DavisMon Feb 08 1993 13:1015

       The way that ALL-IN-1 decides whether an FLC is obsolete is as follows.

       When an FLC is compiled a checksum is calculated and put into the FLC.
       The checksum is calculated by using the CRC instruction on the first
       block of the FLB. As the first block contains the date the FLB was last
       updated, the checksum in the FLC becomes invalid whenever a change is
       made to the FLB.

       I don't know what has gone wrong in your case - it seems unlikely that
       BACK/IMAGE would alter the contents of a block.

2227.2MSCP Served device ??AIMTEC::VOLLER_IGordon (T) Gopher for PresidentMon Feb 08 1993 13:5410
    John,

       On the original system, were the form libraries located on an MSCP
       served device?

       If so, it is possible that you have encountered a known problem with
       the checksum validation. This problem has since been fixed.

    Cheers,
    Iain.

    I performed the backup by booting both nodes into an NI cluster (as
    satellites) and MSCP servicing the target disks. I then did a disk to
    disk backup/image copy.

    When was this problem fixed. As I said this was a new instalation (from
    the JAN CDs)!

2227.4Fixed in v3.0-1 (Mag tape or TK50)AIMTEC::WICKS_AWALES 10 England 9Mon Feb 08 1993 18:3610
    John,

    The problem Iain is referring to is mentioned in note 1601 (amongst
    others) and was fixed in ALL-IN-1 v3.0-1 which is not available
    on CD.

2227.5Wrong set of langauge specific formsNWGEDU::MACKNEYMon Feb 15 1993 17:2329
    More problems...

    I've precompiled and re-installed my form libraries, and now the
    Osolete messages have gone. However, I can now only select English options
    from forms. (The system is a multi-language ENGLISH/DUTCH system) i.e.
    when I select ALLIN1/Language=Dutch, the form shows the dutch options
    e.g.

    TV	Tekstverwerking
    EP	Elektronic post
    BB	Bureaubeheer
    TB	Tijdbeheer
    IB	Informatiebeheer
    ZT	Zakelijke toepassingen
    CO 	Comminicatie
    V	Vervolg opties

    TR	Training
    VA	Verlaat ALL-IN-1

    But accepts only WP,EM,DM,TM,IM,BA,COM,M,TR,EX... otherwise I get
    Invalid choice - re-enter. (in fact I do get the Dutch message
    "Die keuze is ongeldig".

    I must be picking up the wrong language set of forms i.e. allways
    English, so the named data is wrong for the additional language option.

    Anyone have any ideas where I should start looking.

2227.6Need to compile libraries in the right languageIOSG::SHOVEDave Shove -- REO2-G/M6Mon Feb 15 1993 17:4313
    On a multi-language system, you have to precompile the libraries while
    running ALL-IN-1 in the appropriate language. It sounds as though you
    need to do it again with $ALLIN1/USER=MANAGER/LANGUAGE=DUTCH.

    This is because the forms compiler compiles the menu option names in
    named data from the appropriate message file. The form "picture" (what
    you see on the screen) isn't compiled - it comes from the .FLB file at
    run-time (and so for a Dutch user comes from the
    OA$LIB_DUTCH:OAFORM.FLB file).

    Dave.

    PS - this is mentioned, in passing, in the ALL-IN-1 Management Guide,
