Hi All, I have just come across a very odd problem with a DOCDB.DAT on an ALL-IN-1 version 2.4 (Patch k603) and OpenVMS 5.5-1 system. A user was unable to login and go the following OpenVMS error message -RMS-E-FLK, file currently locked by another user. If you tried to type the DOCDB.DAT came back with %TYPE-W-OPENIN, error opening <disk>:[user.a1]DODB.DAT as input followed by -RMS-E-FLK, file currently locked by another user. Tried doing a <NEWDIR from the ALL-IN-1 system managers account and I still got the -RMS-E-FLK, message. Normal behaviour is for ALL-IN-1 to display a message saying "you are currently using ALL-IN-1 please use reenter to login". NEWDIR should allow you to access the users account without a problem apart from the "Record stream is currently locked ...." message if you are trying to access a record beyound the locked record. The customer noticed the problem first when TRU was running it reported the file locked. To find out who was locking I asked the customer to do the following: $mc sysman SYSMAN> set environment/cluster SYSMAN> show devic/files Could not find any process locking the file. I also went into the system analyzer to check all locks on the notes in the cluster and did a search for the [USER.A1]DOCDB.DAT straing and it came back with nothing. The customer has said that this has happened a few times on his system and has in the past rebooted the system to solve the problem. Any ideas as to why this maybe happening ? Thanks in advance, Sunil

Sunil, There was a problem with FCVR and where the patch put the image in 2.4. It would put it in oa$site.... instead of oa$lib_share. I believe the article was titled "FCVR rnadomly gets bucket/locked error reading docdcb." Also note 2762 in the 2.4 conference had some pointers. HTH, Tim
2225.2 | What happens when an account is locked ? | GIDDAY::SETHI | Man from Downunder | Tue Feb 09 1993 00:10 | 14 |
Hi Tim, I had seen the Stars article and the note in the 2.4 conference and it's not really the type of problem my customer is having. I wonder if an ALL-IN-1 account becomes locked would it cause the above problem ? I know if the account is locked the user will get the messagetelling him/her to contact the system manager .... etc. If for some reason an account did become locked would this cause the problems as in .0 ? In short what happens when an account is locked ? Thanks, Sunil
2225.3 | No, it's a real RMS lock... | IOSG::PYE | Graham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's Apprentice | Tue Feb 09 1993 09:09 | 8 |
When an account is locked, it just sets the NOT$IN$USE flag in the profile. This can be unlocked with the hidden UL option on the SM MUA menu. So if there's an RMS type lock on the file, then someone/thing must have it! Graham |
