the patch:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.6 RESOURCES
During the installation of this patch, you must have a minimum
of 55 000 blocks of free disk space on the system disk temporarily,
and an additional 20 000 blocks per language. This means for example,
that you need 75 000 blocks of free disk space for an ALL-IN-1 system
with one language.
The following table clarifies the disk space requirements:
Table 1-1 Disk Space Requirements

(A) = [OA$BUILD_SHARE]
(B) = These blocks are released.
Before you install this patch, make sure that your system has
sufficient physical memory, global pages, and global sections
available for the installation. When you relink ALL-IN-1
during the patch installation you will need twice the global pages
and global sections normally required for installing ALL-IN-1.
See the ALL-IN-1 Installation Guide for more details.

2177.2 | 81400 blocks for what ? | UTRTSC::SCHOLLAERT | Hup Holland Hup | Fri Jan 29 1993 16:02 | 13 |
| Bina,
I even did not even look at the release notes when the customer
gave such a big number of 81400....
Is this really the correct value ?
Thanks,
Jan

| Jan,
Fraid so, it depends on what you end up with after you add up the numbers
in the table that Bina posted. It's a scary number I know but what with
the size of this beast it makes you wonder how big any subsequent
superset PFP would be doesn't it?
Still RA82s hold 900,000 blocks so v3.0-9 should still fit (:==:)

| Jan,
one other thing that just occurred to me can catch you out is that the
figure for free disk-space does *NOT* include the space that will be
used if you install the CART datafile and run the CART before
installing v3.0-1
see the STARS article

Patch

2177.6 | V3.0-1 and OPTIONS=AWD ??? | COPCLU::ELIN | Elin Christensen @DMO, DTN 857-2406 | Mon Feb 01 1993 13:53 | 16 |
| One of my customers has attempted to install v3.0-1 today.
She has only 35000 blocks free on the system disk, and the kit checks for
81400 blocks.
I told her to try with VMSINSTAL OPTIONS AWD.
She created a directory on a disk with more than 600000 blocks, in
order to use that as alternate working directory, but the installation
still required 81400 blocks free on the system disk.
==================
Can't options AWD be used with the ALL-IN-1 v3.0-1 patch kit?
- Can AWD be used if I modify the disk space checks in KITINSTAL.COM?
Please, a quick answer, the customer is waiting at the telephone.

2177.7 | Some STARS articles on AWD | AIMTEC::WICKS_A | MUP(pets) coming to ALL-IN-1 soon? | Mon Feb 01 1993 16:46 | 17 |
| Elin,
Note that STARS contains a number of articles on the AWD option
and it's use with ALL-IN-1 which indicate some problems using
it with both the WPS-PLUS v4 Option and with ALL-IN-1 v3.0.
Though none of them explicitily mention v3.0-1 this early on Monday
morning I would make a rash assumption that some of the information in
them could apply to your customer.

2177.8 | NONSAFETY mode for v3.0-1 ? | COPCLU::ELIN | Elin Christensen @DMO, DTN 857-2406 | Tue Feb 02 1993 09:59 | 19 |
| Hi Andrew
I know that we have had problems with AWD in earlier ALL-IN-1
versions, but I have just done an installation of ALL-IN-1/Dansk
(Danish) v3.0 where I used VMSINSTAL OPTIONS AWD with no problems on a
system with too little disk space on the system disk.
I was surprised and happy about this, that ALL-IN-1 engineering had now
started building kits in a way that allowed for the AWD option to be
used.
I still hope that someone will tell me that the v3.0-1 patch will
install if I do a minor change to KITINSTAL.COM.
Why can't this patch be installed in NONSAFETY mode?
You can install a whole ALL-IN-1 system in NONSAFETY mode with only
35000 blocks free on the system disk.
It doesn't seem right that we need 81400 just to install a patch.

2177.9 | V3.0-1 and AWD not supported | IOSG::PARKER | Jim Parker | Tue Feb 02 1993 16:54 | 7 |
| Sorry Elin,
But V3.0-1 patch installation tool does NOT support use of AWD. We
will have to look at this as the next patch kit is accumulative and
will contain V3.0-1.

Well I guess you have your answer now since .9 is the man in charge
of patch kits. Sorry I could only repeat the bad news.

I have told my customer to wait for the next patch kit and hope that
the AWD option will then be supported.
