| Dave,
When Charlotte "went away", so did the technical resources for SSM.
The sources were maintained on the SHALOT cluster. All the
knowledgable tech. people were transitioned. If the Sales and
Marketing Practice still exists, they would be your best source.
Contact Larry Gilbert or Harvey Silverberg, both @ACI. Sorry, don't
have numbers handy.
You may be able to obtain a copy from the European ASSETS people. It
was available from them at one time. I doubt that the US ASSETS
program retained copies, but they may have.
DEC Canada built a modified version of SSM for use by their sales
force. Maybe someone from the Toronto group will reply here (hint,
hint).
If all else fails, you may be able to obtain a copy of the older
version from the SSB archives. No idea of contact here.
Best of luck with your search.

| Dave, (the .0 one)
One of only two STARS articles on SSM that I could find is written
by one Dave Hussey - SSM Engineering so there's no way
I can possibly manage as accurate and well written a response as my
colleague here at the ALF facility but i'll add some bits and pieces
I do know.
1) SSM was retired sometime prior to Jul-1991 which may predate the
archives of the European ASSETS library and the last version I
saw was running on ALL-IN-1 v2.3 so might take a little to upgrade
if you're intending to go to v3.0.
2) I spent sometime in the lovely city of Charlotte in the last days
of the OPA facility rescuing some source code, documentation and
knowledge but looking through the still unpacked box of stuff I
returned with I don't see anything on SSM so it may not exist on
the SHALOT backups that went "north".
3) the unpatched SSM kit 1.2 is on the July 1990 CD but Dave's STARS
article contains a workaround for installing that kit under v2.4
so it must be a good avenue to pursue if you try and obtain one
of these old CDs.
regards,
Andrew.D.Wicks
