2094.0. "Creating an Application Area ..." by VNABRW::EHRLICH_K (Screaming for vengeance) Fri Jan 15 1993 10:09

    Hi,

I've a question on Creating an Application, esp. Creating an Appli-
    cation Area.

I've created an testapplication for 'learning' how to use the new CM
functionality. Where I defined the following

       Base root dir: USER02:[APPLICATION.EHR]
       Site root dir: USER02:[APPLICATION.EHR.SITE]

Then I've executed the Script OA$LIB:CM_DEFINE_APPLICATION_LOG.

So, now I do create an application area

       App. Code: EHR
       Area Code: TEST Area: EHR_TEST
       Receive Area: REC_EHR_TEST
       Base root dir: USER02:[APPLICATION.EHR]
       Site root dir: USER02:[APPLICATION.EHR.SITE]

and the initialization continues. The DirectoryStructure is set up
    correct.

But now here's a point, where I'm confused:

After all logicals of this Area were defined, I thought that the
Directories would be created too, but they are not.
E.g. The Directory for the Live Area wasn't created.

Must I create all Directories by myself (by hand), or have I forgotten
    something???

Sorry, for this 'Stupid' Question, but it's a very brand new way of
    live for me.

    Best regards
    Charly

    Hi Charly,

You have to create the directories (i.s. the Live and Base locations)
by hand. When CM creates the application area it takes care of the CM
necessary directories (DEV_*), but not the Live and Base ones.

The confusion might start as CM indeed defines 'possible' Live and Base
location entries in CM$AUTH$LOCATIONS. This is only done to help you a
little bit. You can disable this by specifying 'N' to the field
'Default authorized locations:' when creating an area. This is usefull
if logicals already exist (old applications), or you don't like the
    algorithm used by CM.

If you specified 'N', you have to enter the Live (&Base) locations
yourself. Keep in mind that the logicals used must exist, the
directories pointed to by the logicals must exist and last but not
least possible libraries (form, HELP) should exist.

    Ciao,

    	Simon
