2053.0. "ALL-IN-1 3.0 trying to get CDA 2.0 Linked" by WARCRY::MATTHEWS_G (It's not the years, it's the milage.) Fri Jan 08 1993 22:07

Asking for help about CDA and ALL-IN-1.

QUICK SUMMARY:
Relinking ALL-IN-1 (if CDA is not already linked) shows no reference
to linking to CDA. When the link done with the CDA$LIBRARY logical DEASSIGNED
a reference to CDA does occur running A1LNKDRV but the message is
just that CDA will not be linked.

I had done previous work on this for ALL-IN-1 2.4 but the answer
appears to be different now.

Customer Bill's system has ALL-IN-1 3.0 on it, and CDA 2.0 has been installed.
Windows IS definitely installed.

ALL-IN-1 appears not to be linked to use CDA. Running ALL-IN-1 and doing
a CD only gives the default choices, none that are offered through CDA.

Rerunning the A1LNKDRV will not acknowledge that CDA is to be linked.

Removing the CDA$LIBRARY logical (my research under 2.4) and then
running the A1LNKDRV fails when it does not find the CDA$LIBRARY logical.

I have researched the ALL-IN-1 notes files and other sources and not
found an answer to this.

Our system here (DIMUND) is in the same state as the customer's.

Using VMSInstal (after consulting with Alice) to put on the CDA
Interoperability Kit as page 4.1.3 of the ALL-IN-1 Install Guide states
is necessary to get CDA to run under ALL-IN-1, did not help here when a
relink is done.

Does anyone else have any ideas.

After sending that query to my coworkers I got a response from Andrew. I am
including it here in case others can verify which is right/best.
It might save some trouble for people later.

The CDA Interoperability kit is only used for CDA 1.1 - you can't put it
on a CDA 2.0 system.

To add CDA support to ALL-IN-1 you must do an update install

What I don't know is whether the sequence is

	a) install CDA 1.1
	   update ALL-IN-1
	   install CDA 2.0
	   relink
or
	b) install CDA 2.0
update ALL-IN-1 (you get a free relink this way)

Which permutations have you tried?

I believe you have to add the new CDA formats to the Format data file
yourself. Regards,	Andrew

Firstly, by `CDA 2.0' I assume you really mean `CDA converter libraries V2.0'
and not some other product (like the CDA runtime services.) If not, please
correct me.

This is OK - a message is only displayed if CDA is *not* being linked in.
(I.e. no message means you are getting CDA.)

The conversions offered by CD are determined from FORMAT master entries.
If you wish to use any of the converters within ALL-IN-1, you have to:

1) add FORMAT master entries for each converter to be used.
2) make each of the converter images `known' images (via the $INSTALL utility)

    Paul.
