2022.0. "User directories with 1,700+ files" by TAV02::CHAIM (Semper ubi Sub ubi .....) Tue Dec 29 1992 09:47

ALL-IN-1 V2.3

A customer with LOTS of documents has recently been encountering :Problem with
COPY function" errors. His DOCx directories contain 1,700+ files. GOLD-W
doesn't enlighten any further, but my suspicion was that these directories have
reached their saturation point. To "prove" this we temporarily renamed the
existing DOCx directories and created new empty ones, and everything worked.

What is interesting though is that only ALL-IN-1 fails. Issuing create or copy
from within DCL to these directories does succeede.

1. Why does ALL-IN-1 fail when from DCL it works?

2. What can the user do (he CANNOT delete files until the end of the year).

Thanks,

Cb.

Cb,

i hope that this suggestion is not too late, as there were only two
days left before the end of the year!

If the documents are "read only", then why not create some new ALL-IN-1
users and protect their file cabinets to allow access to the original user.
Copy the existing files into the new file cabinet (using the [USER]FOLDER
syntax), treating the different [USER]FOLDER combinations a bit like
DRAWERS in v3.0. This will spread the files out across lots of DIRs.

I am a little surprised that ALL-IN-1 is failing with only 1,700 files,
which is less than 200 per DOCx directory. You could try to "compress"
the DOC directories by renaming them to eg DOC1OLD.DIR, creating a new
directory and renaming all the files from the old to new directories.

Does GOLD-W give any information?
