2012.0. "EXPAND_DIST_LIST problem?" by KERNEL::LOAT (Ahead groove factor 5! Yeah!) Wed Dec 23 1992 09:48
VMS 5.5 ALL-IN-1 3.0
A customer is doing a bit of application programming, and has seen a
problem with the function MAIL EXPAND_DIST_LIST.
When he executed the function, it didn't expand the dist. list at all,
which then caused an error later in their script.
This has only happened once on a message which is long gone, and he
hasn't been able to reproduce it.
He has asked us at the CSC if there are any circumstances in which
EXPAND_DIST_LIST doesn't expand the dist. list correctly (ie any 'known
problems") I've looked through all the information we've got, and came
up with nothing, so I thought I'd ask here just in case anyone knows of
any problems.
Thanx, and a Happy Christmas
Steve.

| Hi Steve,
Can you get the script (what was the sequence of calls)? And what was the list
called, and what sort of entries were in it? There MUST be something unusual
somewhere (as I'm sure you know!)

2012.2 | User Error surely (:==:) | AIMTEC::WICKS_A | A year behind in more ways than one | Wed Jan 06 1993 04:16 | 19 |
| Steve,
a bug in EXPAND_DIST_LISTS in a release after v2.3 - never (:==:)
the only one I remember was back in v2.3 days when the distribution
list had too many address (over 700 or so). I guess you've checked
STARS right so the fact that I can't remember my password doesn't
affect this reply but all the other 'oversights in the design'
that i can recall were fixed before v3.0
e.g funny characters in the distribution list name e.g ( or space etc
dl in the wastebasket getting in the way
etc...
EXPAND_DIST_LISTS didn't/doesn't set OA$STATUS since it always assumes
success - and why not (:==:)
regards,
Andrew.D.Wicks
