2003.1 | Only used to set global buffering | IOSG::SHOVE | Dave Shove -- REO2-G/M6 | Tue Dec 22 1992 11:05 | 9 |
| It's used to set the global buffering on various system files.
It's done only to improve performance. Nothing will go wrong if the
number is too low.
I think the formula used to calculate the global buffering from the
<number of users> is documented somewhere. (Performance guide?) Given
that, the customer can simply do $SET FILE/GLOBAL_BUFFER=... to vhange
the values. ($DIR/FULL shows the currently set values).

2003.3 | Watch GLOBAL PAGES | SUBURB::BROWNSTONE | Out to lunch | Wed Dec 23 1992 15:09 | 5 |
| However, set the number too high and the install process may (should??)
calculate that you've insufficient GLOBAL PAGES to support the
required number of global buffers - and fail.

2003.4 | Maybe in IG? | IOSG::PYE | Graham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's Apprentice | Thu Dec 24 1992 11:40 | 10 |
| I think the formulae used to calculate the global buffer counts are in
the Installation Guide.
If not, ask again and I'll dig them out of the code for you.
Graham
PS Dave was certainly better than me to answer this question, since he
wrote that code, probably unchnaged, since before I took over
installation in V2.2!
