1995.0. "dangers of /REENTER?" by SUOSW3::HAMANN () Mon Dec 21 1992 07:28

    Hello,

I have an application, where I would like to produce a document
within a batch job. This would require to /REENTER ALL-IN-1.

I have read 1651 about the dangers of doing so, and would like to
    elaborate a bit further.

My application is a bit strange, but this might help here.

    1. The file cabinet is not used, all documents are naked VMS-Files.
    2. The batchjob does only some MEGE_LIST processing within ALL-IN-1

Would it be safe to REENTER in this case? Does MERGE_LIST access
WPSDEF? If so, could I redefine OA$USER or some other logical to point
to a different directory for the batch job?

Are the restrictions of /REENTER documented somewhere in detail?

This application should work with 2.4 and 3.0.

    Thanks for your advice

    Klaus

As long as none of the files are WPS-PLUS (.WPL), WPSDEF won't be
    accessed.

Isn't there a BATCH merge queue in ALL-IN-1 IOS v3.0?

Would that do the job you want?

    Hi,
thank you for your fast response.

    re .1

    The files ARE WPS-PLus files!

    re .2

V3.0 would do, but I need a solution for 2.4 now!

    sincerely
    Klaus

Oh dear,

i don't think that WPS-PLUS works in BATCH in v2.4, and MERGE_LIST uses
WPS-PLUS code. Maybe i am wrong, or maybe you could do the same job using
the ALL-IN-1 MERGE function instead.
