1976.0. "Double Spacing in Print Style" by WAYOUT::CLARKE (The Cat in the Hat comes back.) Wed Dec 16 1992 14:40

What is the Double Spacing field on the print sytle supposed to do.
I cannot get it to do anything using LN03, Postscript and HP print styles.

The manual says;

"Specifies whether the item will be printed out double spaced. Some types of
documents cannot be double spaced."

Does double space mean double line spacing, which I can achieve using these print
styles with a left margin tab of D in the ruler, or is it supposed to be some
kind of s t r e t c h e d  word spacing ?

What types of documents cannot be double spaced ( I may be able to answer this
myself once double space is defined for me ) ?

I know this query is WPS-PLUS'sy but thought the ALL-IN-1 Conference a more
appropriate place as you do not have print styles in WPS-PLUS.

Thanks

Aston,

Double spacing means double line spacing, NOT s t r e t c h e d  w o r d s.
It is only possible to do this with ASCII documents. The output from the
WPS-PLUS formatter for WPS-PLUS documents is in a format which is not
possible to be double spaced by the printer. As you say, double spacing
can be achieved in WPS-PLUS documents using the D ruler setting.

1976.2Creates Print Job with /SPACEIOSG::NEWLANDRichard Newland, IOSG, REO1-D/4AMon Jan 04 1993 11:5713
Specifying Double spacing in the print style creates a VMS print job with
the DOUBLE_SPACE attribute. The /SPACE qualifier on the DCL PRINT command
does the same thing. The double spacing is performed by the VMS print
symbiont while the listing file is being printed. Because this operation
is performed during printing it is not specific to particular types of
documents.

In comparison the WPS-PLUS D ruler setting is specific to WPS-PLUS
documents. Also, the double spacing is performed when the document is
formatted, and not when it is printed.

    This seems like a big oversight to me - it means that it is impossible
    to toggle between double line spaced and normally spaced without
    changing every ruler in a document !
    SPR time...
