1968.0. "purge count in V3.0?" by AIMTEC::SIMPSON_L () Tue Dec 15 1992 19:10

    Hello,

    Has anyone worked with the purge count field on the from used to create
    a new format?

    I have a customer who is using 20/20 under V3.0 of ALL-IN-1. She says
    that a format type of worksheet is set up for 20/20 files. In creating
    this format type, the purge count field is set to a value
    of 1. Under previous versions of ALL-IN-1, setting this purge count
    affected the version limit at the Vms level
    so that if purge count is one, only one version of each file would be
    kept at the VMS level.

    Now under V3.0, she says that the purge count is not working. It
    allows more than one version of each
    file at the VMS level.

    Has anyone else ever experienced something like this?

    Thanks.

    Laurie

1968.1Well, I believe that it's only used by the editors...IOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeWed Dec 16 1992 09:417
    My understanding is that the purge count field is only used by the code
    surrounding the editors (and perhaps only the built in EDT and TPU) to
    do a purge after an edit.

    Perhaps they had a version limit on the directory before?

    Of course the customer is always right :-)

    Laurie,

    It's a day for vague memories from me but ... In addition to the
    editors I remember that Lotus 1-2-3 used this field to purge its
    spreadsheets so it's entirely possible that 20/20 does too.

    Since we support 20/20 for ALL-IN-1 at the other end of the building
    it might be a good idea to check with them and then decide whether
    an SPR against either ALL-IN-1 or 20/20 is called for.

    Of course there's always trace (:==:) Please wish XYLANA and everyone
    a Merry Christmas from me - see you next year.

    Regards,
