My customer is a heavy internet user. They also use UCX/SMTP. All the users have their internet address on their business cards and the customer does not want their internet addresses to change in any way. They want outside users to address mail DIRECTLY to ALL-IN-1 users via internet. The following string can be used successfully: [email protected] In my case, my customer is University of Massachusetts at Lowell, so a typical address would be: [email protected] I am **NOT** an internet expert, I am simply an internet user. I would like to be able to somehow translate incoming internet addresses so that when internet sees [email protected] it will translate to [email protected] Is this possible in internet? The internet administrator at the university says no, but I think he may just be overworked and doesn't have time to figure out how to do this. If someone knows how to do it, could you enter the directions here? I will then relay them to the internet administrator. If we can't do this, then this limitation may kill this project. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Eileen

Eileen, Unix Sendmail has a configuration file which holds a set of rules regarding addressing etc. It should be possible to edit the sendmail config file to do, in essence, what Message Router does with the /REPLACE capability. Also, you mentioned use of Ultrix Connection (UCX), but I was told two months ago while researching internet to ALL-IN-1 mail problems for NIH, that you have to have Ultrix Mail Connection. (SMTP does something funny to ALL-IN-1 mail headers). Feel free to give a call. I am no expert, but together maybe we can find one! |
