1910.0. "RSD Question" by KERNEL::COOPER (Suzanne Cooper UK Customer Support (833)3502) Mon Dec 07 1992 14:40

I have a question on RSD, (i've check notes and stars and can't seem
to find the answer, although the question has been asked in the note
176 in the old 2.4 conf.)

When RSD is running and has decided to create some new shared
directories, What defines the logicals for the new shared directories?

    Thanks in advance
    Suzanne

On the current node, it defines them itself. Also, more importantly it
updates the data file which A1V30START uses to define them at reboot
time. It then submits batch jobs on the other nodes in the cluster to
define them on the other nodes. That's what the option to define node
    specific queues is there for!

I come, O Great Master...

The definition of logicals, as described by GAP in .1, hasn't changed since
V2.3 (to my knowledge)

So what can cause it not to work. The logicals weren't even defined on
the node where RSD was run - let alone the other 8 nodes in the
cluster. Everyhing seemed to be ok when the started up was run
manually on each node, i.e. the logicals were defined.

Likely the batch queues for the individual nodes aren't set up in the
data file, or the queues are stopped or something like that.

The shared area data file is obviously OK, since the logicals get
defined by A1VnnSTART at boot time.

1910.7The log file reveals all...SCOTTC::MARSHALLI'd rather be skiingWed Dec 09 1992 19:1913
I assume that you mean the logicals aren't defined after RSD is run,
but do get defined the next time the system is started up?

Look in the log file produced by RSD. If it was unable to define the logicals,
there will be an error message. This message should be two lines: one line
saying something like "CREATE_DIRS DEFINE_LOGICALS" (that's the one that's
identifies where the problem occured) and then an ordinary VMS error message,
such as "Insufficient privilege" (which tells us what went wrong).

If you can post the error (not the whole log!) I'll try and say something
intelligent about it.

Grasshopper :-)
