ALL-IN-1 V2.4 VMS V5.3 Current configuration consists of one mail area, with a very large SDAF, multiple shared directories spread across several disks. Question: After creating additional mail areas and associated directories, does a subsequent run of the BMA physically move files from the old SDAF and shared directories and evenly distribute across all open mail areas, providing all configured on the system are open. Or, does the current mail area remain intact, i.e., no files are moved, only the profile of existing users is modified to distribute the population across the mail areas? Thanks... Bill

1907.1 | Users, not messages | SIOG::T_REDMOND | Thoughts of an Idle Mind | Sat Dec 05 1992 22:44 | 9 |
BMA distributes users across open mail areas. The task of distributing messages across available areas and rewriting all the records in the various SDAFs would be massive and prone to error. Also, remember that users' DOCDB records store the filenames for shared messages which, in turn, act as pointers to SDAF records in order to locate the attributes. So all of the DOCDBs on a system would also have to be processed! Uuugghhhh... Tony | |||||

As SDAF records contain filenames in their attachments pointers, the task would also involve checking all attachment pointers and potentially re-writing all these as well! D. |
