| This isn't going to sound very helpful...
Presumably the link of the formatter image has failed in some way, and
hence there wasn't an image for the installation code to provide.
Was there some sort of error message earlier on in the installation
log? Don't post the whole log here, but if there's anything odd looking
after it says it's linking the images then let us see it.
The fact that it fails in both kits suggests there's something missing
on your system, most likely bet is the symbiont shareable. Is the
famous SMBSRVSHR logical defined? (Look hard, in every logical table
you can think of!)
Also what VMS version is this, is it an upgrade?

1894.2 | Check DECwindows not tailored out | AIMTEC::WICKS_A | Soon: warm beer, football, rain | Thu Dec 03 1992 18:32 | 8 |
| Another thing to check...
CDA support was chosen in the install but DECwindows has been tailored
out so the formatter link can't get to img$shrlib or cda$access.

1894.3 | Trying Option K | KERNEL::SMITHERSJ | Living on the culinary edge.... | Mon Dec 07 1992 09:58 | 11 |
| If you choose option K at the VMSINSTAL option, then this gives
you some idea of what file it is trying to access when it bombs
out.
Hope this helps. I had a similar problem when trying to install
v.3 and it kept accvioing when linking the ALL-IN-1 image. Option
K allowed me to see it was trying to access VAXCRTL.EXE on each
occasion when it access violated. After replacing the image, the
installation went through OK.
