1832.0. "Fetcher hang?" by PASVC::STEVENTAM (Steven Tam @PAS) Mon Nov 23 1992 05:13

I'm running ALLIN1 V2.4 under VMS V5.4-3 in a LAVC.
Recently I found that my fetcher OAMTIMAIL is not running
properly. The status of this job in the batch queue is running,
and I've typed the log and it is running 'MAIL MTI_FETCH_REMOTE'.
But it can't fetch the mail from MR and the logfile doesn't show
any error. Even it can fetch the message, but it can't stop
after fetching all the messages.

This problem is sometimes happened.

Why does it occur?

Would anyone have any idea?

Steven.

    Hello Steven,

    Hanging fetchers can be cause by A1SUB.LOG having a version of 32767.

    Check this file in OAUSER of POSTMASTER.

    2.3 hanging fetchers could occur when incomingd NBS files were corrupted
    but I think this problem is solved in 2.4

1832.2Can't find A1SUB.LOGPASVC::STEVENTAMSteven Tam @PASTue Nov 24 1992 02:4710
Thanks for your reply.

But I can't find A1SUB.LOG in POSTMASTER's account.  I only find
it in [.MGR].

Apart from the version and file corruption problem, is there any
reason the fetcher hangs?

Regards,
Steven.

Last week a customer reported a hanging fetcher on a system with a
non-digital wordprocessor integrated. Fetcher was sometimes hanging.

This was caused by one user who had set his mail forward to HARDCOPY.
The fetcher activated the wordprocessor to print the mail and hung.

$ ANA /SYSTEM or and $ SET WATCH showed the opened files.

1832.4Is this system patched?AIMTEC::WICKS_ALiverpool 4 Norwich 1Tue Nov 24 1992 16:479
    Steven,

    You also need to ensure that the system is patched up to the Mandatory
    Update (also called K603 or A1024SUS020) as they are number of Sender/
    Fetcher opportunities fixed by that.
