1779.0. "skipping dist lists" by OASS::AMATO_A () Fri Nov 13 1992 15:46

Can anyone give an explanation for the following behaviour in 2.4 and 3.0

If I do an index from Distribution List Management (DL) I have the following:

1 @ELEPHANTS Distribution List
2 @DOORDIE Distribution List
3 @APERSONAL Distribution List
4 @ASYSDISLIS System Distribution List
5 @DOORDIE System Distribution List
6 @MANAGERS System Distribution List
7 @ZEBRA System Distribution List

If on form DL I use the DOWN ARROW to cycle through the dist lists,
@ELEPHANTS is shown the context block, folder is DISTRIBUTION LISTS then
@DOORDIE, folder DISTRIBUTION LISTS, then @MANAGERS, folder is System
Distribution Lists.

I would have expected to see @APERSONAL after @DOORDIE, then @ASYSDISLIS, then
@DOORDIE the system dist list. I also thought they would be alphabetized but
that is another story.

Any enlightenment would be appreciated.

    Angela,

DISTRIBUTION LISTS is just a folder and the entries within it are just
documents filed by creation date so if you go to FC and do and Index
    you will see

       1 DISTRIBUTION LISTS @MER 13-Nov-1992
       2 DISTRIBUTION LISTS DIST_LIST: 10-Jul-1992
     > 3 DISTRIBUTION LISTS @DFF 13-Jan-1992

Organised by creation/modification date and indeed this is the way
index from DL will display - not alphabetic that would have been too
difficult to do particularly since it would require a developer to know
all 26 letters of the alphabet and the order in which they are supposed
    to be arranged (:==:)

So that's why the scrolling with Personal DLs isn't logical!!

as to the System DLs that's a slightly different story since they are
PROFILE entries and RMS knows its alphabet. At the DL menu you really
shouldn't be able to scroll through the SDLs since you need to go to
the SA MDL menu to do that. there were a number of failed attempts to
fix the behaviour of scrolling through SDLs in v2.4 and the best it
ever got was it would scroll to the first one, realise it had made a
mistake and then go back to the top PDL next eventually you ended up
being able to scroll through all of them.

I believe that the developer responsible for failing to fix this was
forced into exile in Atlanta! so you might like to try and locate him.

    Regards,
