Customer has upgrade to 5.5-1 and are using the new queue manager. They have ALL-IN-1 2.4 and Wordperfect (the customer said he had checked with WordPerfect and it was the correct version for there configuration). The problem is that they cannot use the Background formatter, foreground is functioning ok, and the users can print ok from WordPerfect. If you run the OA$FORMATTER.EXE image interactively you get the error %JBC-E-SYMCREPRC, error creating symbiont process for' If you run the formatter startup the queue starts but as soon as a job is submitted to it, the job get processed for a bit and then the queue stops and the job remains in the queue (they are not retained on error), the following error are reported by OPCOM:- Message from user QUEUE_MANAGE on CHP051 %QMAN-E-SYMDEL, unexpected symbiont process termination Message from user QUEU_MANAGE on CHP051 -SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO, access violation, reason mask=00, virtual address=00000000, P -99 I have checked the oa$formatter image and they are linked against the following images:- 0) this image 1) "CDA$ACCESS" 2) "VAXCRTL" 3) "LIBRTL" 4)"MTHRTL" 5) "DDIF$VIEWSHR" 6) "IMG$SHRLIB" 7) "DECW$TRANSPORT_COMMON" 8) "LBRSHR" 9) "DECW$XLIBSHR" 10) "DECW$DWTLIBSHR" 11) "XDPS$DPSCLIENTSHR" 12) "XDPS$DPSLIBSHR" 13) "FDLSHR" 14) "SMBSRVSHR" 15) "BASRTL" 16) "SECURESHR" 17) "SECURESHRP" Each of these images seem ok, (they appear to be running decwindows and not Motif but I have been told this is ok). I have deassigned the SMBSRVSHR logical, relinked ALL-IN-1, got the customer to deintergate WordPerfect. I cannot work out what else to check, or what is wrong? Does anyone have any idea's Suzanne

Suzanne, Look at note 134 in this conference. You may want to start at the back .90 and see 134.88. HTH, Tim
1713.2 | Does SMBSRVSHR get re-defined | IOSG::NEWLAND | Richard Newland, IOSG, REO1-D/4A | Wed Nov 04 1992 15:22 | 5 |
Is a SMBSRVSHR logical defined when you start the OA$FORMATTER queue or run the OA$FORMATTER.EXE image interactively? Richard

we had this same problem. the VMS manager redefined the SMBSRVSHR logical before OA$FORMATTER ques werestarted and then defined it to the proper value after the ques were started. WPC is not integrated with ALL-IN-1 at this site, too. ann

No, I made sure the symbol was deassigned when I relinked and when I ran the image. Suzanne
1713.5 | .541 EXTENSION IN SYS$SHARE | TAVIS::CORDOVA | Thu Nov 05 1992 07:05 | 12
RE .0 I had a similar (although not exactly the same ) problem check to see in SYS$SHARE there are two images (one is IMG$SHRLIB) which should be installed but somehow they remain with the extension - 541 (check for that extension) therefore they are not found. Rename and install them and resatart the formatter maybe it will solve the problem. HTH GIL
1713.6 | Type of formatting or document? | IOSG::NEWLAND | Richard Newland, IOSG, REO1-D/4A | Mon Nov 09 1992 13:52 | 3 |
Does the type of formatting or document make any difference? Richard

I now have a copy of one of the oa$formatter.dmp. .6 Wordperfect documents print ok, WPS-PLUS documents won't print using the background formatter, foreground they print. (customer currently using only foreground printing.) When I dialled in the documents that caused the formatter to fail were WPC on the formatter queue, but now it does it with .wps aswell. Suzanne |
