1703.0. "importing distribution list from VMS" by BIS1::CARTENS () Tue Nov 03 1992 10:19

    I have prepared with Datatrieve a vmsfile containing first name, last
    name and @ location.
    Is there a way to import this file in ALL-IN-1 to make it a distribution
    list.

    Maaike.

    Hi Maaike,

    I presume the VMSfile contains the right format;

        1                                    38
        Name                                 ( name @mailbox @node )

    I think it has been discussed in previous versions of the ALL-IN-1
    conference, but one of the ways to do it is :

    For Distribution list:

    - Use <MAIL DIST_CREATE "name" 		(name = @name or name:)
    - Goto WP menu and select the dist list
    - Use <COPY "VMSfile" OA$CURDOC_FILENAME

    For System distribution list:

    - Use <MAIL SYS_DIST_CREATE "name"
    - Use <COPY "VMSfile" PROFIL.ADDR1["name"]

    For the second one you need the right privs ofcourse as the file
    resides in one of the OA$SHAR* directories.

Hi Maaike,

If the user doesn't have the privilege to enter commands interactively, here's
another method.

1. DT RV : Document Transfer - Receive Document from VMS

2. Folder: DISTRIBUTION LISTS
   Title : any valid title starting with @ or ending with :

3. Type Fulldb and change type from Document to DISTRIB LIST
