1698.0. "Using ALL-IN-1 and X29 pad" by KERNEL::OTHENJ () Mon Nov 02 1992 13:00

Hello,

Here is a note that I posted in the WPP-PLUS notes conference, can
anyone shed any light on ideas to get around this problem?

I have looked at oa$trm_init, oa$trm_inquire and looked at the
value of oa$terminal_noecho, but I cannot see a way around the problem.

	Any ideas?

		Thanks,

			Julie

The customer is using ALL-IN-1 via the X29 pad. They are using an
X29 pad, not the server.

As all the users are used to using typewriters, they were not very
happy with the slow response on the screen, as they found they were
e.g. backspacing but then found it backspaced on the wrong word etc.
The customer found, on using EDT external to ALL-IN-1, that by using the
command

set term/noecho

before calling EDT, and then defining x29 to pass X many chars in one go,
this allowed the customer to see the data they had typed in in chunks, and
made less mistakes.

The customer has ECHO ON on the X29 pad, and ECHO OFF on the
users's terminal itself. If the customer calls up ALL-IN-1, as soon as
they are on the menu, the X29 pad has been reset to ECHO OFF so no text
appears on the screen. The customer has to log onto another terminal to
reset the x29 terminal characteristics to ECHO ON so that text appears on
    the screen.

In the same way, as soon as the customer enters WPS-PLUS, the x29
pad characteristics have been reset to ECHO OFF, so the customer has to
do the reset again. Is there any way of preventing WPS-PLUS from
    resetting the pad??

		Thanks,

			Julie

    Julie,

I'm afraid your assumption in .0 is correct - the WPS-PLUS editor sets
the terminal to a particular state that it needs to work properly, and
there is no way to disable this, since it done in the code.

You mentioned that you have the same problem when invoking EDT from
ALL-IN-1. If this is the case, you should try asking about it in the
    ALL-IN-1 conference.
