1694.0. "Sending to Paper Mail" by KERNEL::COOPER (Suzanne Cooper UK Customer Support (833)3502) Fri Oct 30 1992 17:18

I have a problem sending to a paper mail addressee on a co-existent
    system. The error is

    Subject: Delivery Failure Report

ALL-IN-1 was unable to deliver your message dated 27-Oct-1992
    11:46am to

          PAPER MAIL

              - Recipient has invalid paper mail address;

I have check the default printer for the sender and that is sys$print,
I cannot reproduce the problem. The only difference between my set-up
and the customer set-up is that he has a co-existent system. Can
anyone try this out on a co-existent system and let me know if it works
    or not.

1694.1Silly question...SCOTTC::MARSHALLSun Nov 01 1992 03:034
...but does the printer queue "SYS$PRINT" exist on the problem system? And if
the queue exists, is it set up properly?

...and also check that SYS$PRINT is not just a logical set up in

I've tried the logical and queue for sys$print, I'll get the customer
to try it again. Can you confirm if this works ok on a Co-existent
    system?

    Thanks Suzanne

Delivery To Paper Mail Addressee Fails 'Invalid Paper Mail Address

PROBLEM:

If your default printer points to a >>>> queued <<<<< printer, and you
send a mail message to a paper mail user on their local system, it
results in a delivery failure notification as below:

"ALL-IN-1 was unable to deliver your message dated 23-jun-1992 to
   PAPER MAIL

  - Recipient has invalid paper mail address:"

CAUSE:

This was found to occur if the Print queue for the site printer (SM MFP
MPR PR) was pointing to a logical instead of the actual queue. For
example, the site printer was SYS$PRINT and the print queue field also
showed SYS$PRINT. There was a logical SYS$PRINT which pointed to the
actual queue which was LPA0.

SOLUTION:

Change the Print Queue to point to the actual queue (LPA0) rather than
a logical that is defined as the queue name.

Delivery Failure 'Recipient Has invalid Paper Mail Addresse'

PROBLEM:

When a user sends a mail message to a Paper Mail addressee a
delivery failure notification is received that indicates:

"ALL-IN-1 was unable to deliver your message dated 23-jun-1992 to
 PAPER MAIL

  - Recipient has invalid paper mail address:"

This did not occur in previous version of ALL-IN-1.

CAUSE:

The default printer designated in the senders users profile is
a >>>> PORT <<<<< printer.

SOLUTION:

This is a restriction in the current version of ALL-IN-1 V3.0
and has been reported to Engineering.

This change in functionality was implemented with ALL-IN-1 V3.0.

In previous versions of ALL-IN-1 although a port printer designated
in a user profile did not result in a delivery failure when
sending paper mail, it could result in loss of mail for remote
or second class messages process by the sender in batch, as these
were not printed.

It is expected that changes will be implemented in the future to
allow local first class paper mail to be printed to a port printer.

In the meantime, the only known alternative is to use a queued
printer as the default printer in the users profile to send paper
mail successfully.
