1649.0. "MRS change layout of messages (margin, control block)" by LEMAN::MAURON (Eric @ZSW dtn # 753-2220) Thu Oct 22 1992 18:33

Hello,

A customer has implemented, using ALL-IN-1 an application
which archives documents automatically into DISOSS using
message ROUTER and MRS. On demand, DISOSS is able to send
back archived document to ALL-IN-1.

I was able to reproduce 2 customer's problems, using the
following software:

DEC side:
VAX-VMS 5.5-1
Mess router	3.2 S1
MRS 1.2
ALL-IN-1 3.0 rev PBL12 (ENGLISH)

IBM side

Tested on Valbonne host (22 Oct. 92)

PROBLEM 1

Suppose we import documents from DISOSS to ALL-IN-1, and we
file the text of the message.

The left margin of imported documents is shifted rights to a
number of characters corresponding to the default left print
margin saved on the print and paragraph setting (form
WPPARG1).

All the margins and tabs are shifted rights with this added
value while we're	- read
			- edit
			- print	the document
			- file the message

example:
format of the original message sent to DISOSS

		--- Begin of message ---
L-------T-------T-------T-------T-------T-------T-------T---
The left margin is at 0

----------------L-------T-------T-------T-------T-------T---
now, the left margin (WPS +) is at 17

		--- End of message ---

this message is Now imported back from DISOSS to ALL-IN-1
via MRS. e format of new message after I file its text look
like:

		--- Begin of message ---
----------L-------T-------T-------T-------T-------T-------J

The left margin is at 0

--------------------------L-------T-------T-------T-------J-
now, the left margin (WPS +) is at 17

		--- End of message ---

What customer need:

Every document can be imported, modified and sent back to
DISOSS more than once without have any change on its layout.
That mean the documents have to have always the same layout
independently of the default print setting (while it's sent
back into ALL-IN-1).

Q1: Any solution to prevent this ?

PROBLEM 2

The archived document (into DISOSS) has been created with
ALL-IN-1 (WPS+ V4.1). The original document may content some
WPS+ control blocks. Suppose we import back this documents
to ALL-IN-1, and we file the text of the message.

Consider the following example:

format of the original message sent to DISOSS

		--- Begin of message ---
L-------T-------T-------T-------T-------T-------T-------T---
------------------------------- START CONTROL -----------
TOP
ceci est la ligne 1 sous la commande haut
  " " " " 2 " " " "
et voici la ligne 3
------------------------------- END CONTROL -----------
		--- End of message ---

this message is Now imported back from DISOSS to ALL-IN-1
via MRS. The format of new message after I file its text
look like:

		--- Begin of message ---
----------L-------T-------T-------T-------T-------T-------J
         ------------------------------- START CONTROL------
         TOP

ceci est la ligne 1 sous la commande haut
           " " " " 2 " " " "
         et voici la ligne 3
         ------------------------------- END CONTROL-----
		--- End of message ---

As we can see, a <CR> has been added after the TOP of the
control block.

Q2: Any workaround to prevent this ?

Thanks in advance for any answer.

Best regards

Eric Mauron

    Hi,

MRS V1.2 is not tested against WPS-PLUS V4.x. I would suggest addressing
these problems in the MAILBUS conference. Have a look at note 1173.

Futhermore check the release notes of MRS S1.2-001 (June 1992)
    for fixes.

    Regards,
