1592.0. "Sending an application, forms have blank disk location" by TOPPER::BARHAM (Norbert:) Fri Oct 09 1992 17:59

ALL-IN-1 3.0

Summary: Customer is trying to send an application area from one machine to
another but finds the disk_location field in cm$sitelog blank for forms only.
Thus they cannot edit these forms until they WRITE CHANGE the location on disk.

On the sending machine they are storing an application with CM AM SA SS to
store site elements. All elements were previously moved live. They do this
twice as they have two areas under one application - share and british.
Then SA PA Package Application into a foreign file. Then Send Foreign File
CM S FF.

On the receiving machine they create the new application area CM MA C, then
create the application CA with Share and British, then DAL to define the
logicals. CM FAE to file the attached foreign element. MA RA
receive application. After this you get a screen with two questions asking if
you want a report or a full report - they choose FULL. Also there are two
fields Application and Receive. They chose Application to restore the
application where it's supposed to be restored.

Their real problem is that although all elements were correctly restored to
the development area, the FRM elements had a blank disk_location in
CM$SITELOG so were not accessible until they filled in the disk location field
with OA$SITE_DEV_BRITISH:DEVELOP.FLB. So when they do a
send foreign file, is there something else they should send to update the
cm$sitelog on the receive node ?

On the sending machine A, a form in the live area is marked as live in
cm$sitelog but live=N on receiving machine B. Therefore when trying to move
live it can't as it looks
at the disk location field which is blank and fails with an error :-

No development version found for form x due to disk_location being empty.

If you CM Read Element Info you see develop and live locations. On B you have
Live=Development=N but on A you have Live=Development=Yes.

Shouldn't the restore on B fill in the development location so that the move
live will work for forms ?

All help appreciated.

Thanks

Clive

    This is a known problem.

You need to re-package the application but first.

Go into SM CSZ MET and select the STANDARD FRM record.

Go to the delete from develop when move to live flag and set it to N.

Then repackage the application and all should be ok.

    Mike,

This is a 'temporary fix' right? surely you have to change the flag
back for normal day-to-day use - otherwise programmers would be
seeing the same form all over the place i.e DEVELOP and SITEthingy

    Yours slightly confused,

    Andy,

Yes it is a temporary fix.

If the programmer is using ALL-IN-1 as a user then develop won't be
open. If they are developing then either develop will hold the same
as in SITEthingy or their develop will supercede SITEthingy.
