1581.1 | CREATED -> OUTBOX | SCOTTC::MARSHALL | Do you feel lucky? | Thu Oct 08 1992 17:27 | 11 |
| Hi,
Messages are only moved to the OUTBOX when being sent if they were in the
CREATED folder. This is true regardless of whether the send is performed from
EM or WP (or anywhere else). It is possible (likely?) if the user is using WP
that they created the document in a folder other than CREATED. Hence it would
not be moved to the OUTBOX if it were subsequently converted to a message and
sent.
Just a suggestion,
Scott

| WP S actually does a Forward, so the message should always end up in
the user's OUTBOX.
Are you sure evrything is standard? If so, what version? English?

| Hi Again,
>> WP S actually does a Forward
Dave and I are both right. If the current document is a document (or a SENT
or READ message), WP S forwards it. However, if the current document is an
UNSENT message, then WP S sends it.

| If the MAIL SEND function sends it, it's supposed to wind up in the
OUTBOX (or local language equivalent) folder, as stated by .2.
Perhaps the user deleted the message or refiled all of the OUTBOX to
the WASTEBASKET. Or perhaps it was a Forward (as previously suggested)
and the user didn't recognize the document from its context block info.
Or, as has recently bitten me, perhaps they're really using MAILworks
and they have the "save sent message" option turned off. :^)

| Hi,
Not wishing to be pedantic/repetitious, but as I think it's the most likely
cause of the problem in .0...
>> If the MAIL SEND function sends it, it's supposed to wind up in the OUTBOX
Only if it is in the CREATED folder when MAIL SEND is invoked. Otherwise it
stays in the folder where it was. Is this the case, or has the message
disappeared without trace?
And to add something new to the discussion: are they running the Janitor to
clean things out of the OUTBOX? Maybe this took it away?
Also, if they're using V3.0, maybe WP had a document in a different drawer
current. Mail operations always work on the user's MAIN drawer. So if the
user looks in the OUTBOX of this other drawer, then they won't see the message.

Or, as was stated earlier, a Forward is being done because the current
document is not a mail message.
Scott's point about the MAIN drawer is a good one. It's very easy to
forget that only the MAIN drawer has the OUTBOX stuff.

Hi, and thanks for all the replies !
I should have mentioned in the beginning that the original WP
document was located in a non-MAIN drawer.
It remained in it's original folder after being Sent from WP, but
never appeared in the MAIN drawer OUTBOX, or any other OUTBOX.
We do run a CLEANMAIL job, but it only purges READ and OUTBOX
documents which are over a month old.
From all the replies I've read, I think it must be the case that
the WP S operation actually did a "forward", because the document
was not a mail message.
Thanks very much for your help,
Cheers,
Gil
