1580.0. "V3.0 spanish and old bugs" by CALLAO::MIC () Thu Oct 08 1992 13:43

    	Hi,

We (CSC Office Group) have been "playing" around with the spanish
version of the ALL-IN-1 V3.0 kit and have discovered (extremely
worried) how old "bugs" are again with us.
I hope (cross fingers) that the kit we're using is not the one the
customers are going to receive. It is labeled:
    "ALL-IN-1 IOS Server for VMS V3.0 PBL123A spanish 30-AUG-1992".
I've to confess my ignorance about the process of developing a new
version and how it's changing its denomination. This point of
unknowledge gives me a momentary peace.
    So the questions are:

1.- Is my kit the one delivered to customers?
If it is he've several huge problems.
If not How much can it differs from the right one?

2.- Is it possible the reappearance of a V2.3 bug in V3.0 when it
    was fixed in V2.4?
If it is... How can it be wiped out forever?

Thanks in advance for any kind of help.

Hi,

Perhaps if you can give some specific bugs, someone could give some
specific answers?

Are the problems you are seeing specific to the Spanish kit, or are they in
the base (ie English) ALL-IN-1 V3.0 kit too?

To answer your question about how a new version is made:

ALL-IN-1 V3.0 (English) is made from ALL-IN-1 V2.4 (English)

ALL-IN-1 V2.4 (Spanish) is made from ALL-IN-1 V2.4 (English)

ALL-IN-1 V3.0 (Spanish) is made from ALL-IN-1 V3.0 (English)

    Miguel,

BL123A is the baselevel of ALL-IN-1 that has been shipping to American
English ansd British English customers for 6 months so apart from
having the spanish version you have exactly the same kit the customers
have or in your case will have very soon.

perhaps your concept of "Huge problems" needs to be explained since
it is generally felt that ALL-IN-1 v3.0 is the best quality release
for some time (though I though v2.2 was good!).

As scott has said if you explain these 'problems' we may be able to
    help you...

    regards,

1580.3I don't look like too much worry, do I?ISIDRO::ATTO44::castanoMIC - Digital Services SpainFri Oct 09 1992 13:4628
    Hi all,

Firstly thanks for your fast replies.

And now...Ok no so huge but very annoying problems. The problems I'm
talking about are those in the spanish component, and its reappearance is
what worries me (more than the dificulty to fix them).

I'm not saying V3.0 is better or not (I do think it is!) than previous
version, I'm only trying to put old bugs out of my sight. In the other
hand, I didn't know if we were testing a pre-release version that can be
modified before reaching customers, so that's the reason for my first
    question in .0.

And here comes one of the bugs I found in V2.3 (Spanish all the time),
fixed in V2.4 and live again in V3.0 (again, in PBL123A Spanish):

    * In V2.3 was incorrectly translated the "at" word, used to build up any
remote user address, for the spanish word "en". Obviously Message Router
can't deal with any address like this: user en A1 en node. Found the piece
of code, fixed ( I don't remember if the "@" or the "at" word was used
instead), and the problem went away. V2.4 worked fine from the beginning,
but not my PBL123A 3.0 version.

I do know how to fix it (and I did) but I hoped not to face this problem
never more. Again, Did I miss something to get old bugs wiped out
    forever?.

    Regards,

    Miguel Castao

BTW: ALL-IN-1 V2.2 never was around us here in Spain...

Unless this was a bug in the base version (which I don't remember it
being) then this must have been a problem caused when the translation
    into Spanish was done.

V2.4 was translated by lots of separate groups, one in each country,
but all the V3.0 translations were done in Frankfurt. Most of the old
translation groups were broken up, and a lot of the people who worked
in them don't even work for Digital any more. All of this means that
sometimes bugs that were found in the translated versions weren't
reported to Frankfurt, and so weren't fixed. In some cases, Frankfurt
couldn't even find the previous translations to work from.

You should SPR the problem anyway.

1580.8I think I don't like reorganizations....CALLAO::MICFri Oct 09 1992 17:1213
		Hi Graham,

Thanks for the explanation, I feel a little bit uneasy though.
If I've not missunderstood I should put the dust off my old
documents explaining how and where the translated bugs are.
I'm going to SPR this particular problem.

    Regards,

PS: I'll be holding my breath in the next release time.

    GAP,

Not only did you mess with the note but I think you'll find that in oh
july of 1990 you and I (and Susie) were involved in some way or another
with an attempt to fix this bug in ALL-IN-1 v2.4 for ... it's a small
    world ... the Spanish LEG!!!

See note 22 in the old translation notesfile - I guess the THR-xxxxx
must still be on the database after all.

    hello everybody,

at the moment I'm in Atlanta nad don't have access to all the
    translated systems of V3.
Basically Graham is right, a lot of LEGs are gone (to save money of
course) and we are now working with agencies to translate the products.
The first LEG being completely erased was the Spanish group (what a
coincidence, he?). This is a reason, however it's not an excuse for
Spanish V2.3 bugs showing up again. Apart from that we managed to get
our hands on the V2.4 files (can't remember whether kit or CMS) so at
least it should not have become worse with V3.

I hope that one of the other LC workers will read and answer this.
In the meantime: yes, please, report your findings!

    Re .10	Hi Stefan
    Re .3
    	Hi Miguel,

the problem comes from the OALLV.BLI.
In the spanish one replace the line

    	    OA$GT_EMD_AT_SYMBOL : $OA_GSLIT (' EN '), ! User AT Node
    	with
            OA$GT_EMD_AT_SYMBOL : $OA_GSLIT (' AT '), ! User AT Node

Bliss OALLV.BLI and replace it in OA$BUILD:OALLV.OLB and
    	OA$BUILD:SITEOALLV.BLI

the problem is, that in the BIV OALLV.BLI there should be a comment
that the following line shouldn't be translated

    	regards
    		Frank
