*** FILES MODIFIED BY AN UPGRADE ?? *** Hi, An upgrade of my customers cluster is looming this weekend (from V2.3 to V3.0). Being this close tends to concentrate the mind on what to do if it all goes wrong !! Having formulated an implementation plan, I have been asked to help with a back-out plan. Before anything is done full image backups of the entire system will be taken and this is our position of last resort. Given the time it would take to restore these if required (approx. 20 hrs) I need to see if its possible to identify only the disks where files have changed or been added or deleted. My plan is to recover any disk pointed at by an ALL-IN-1 logical (OA$*). Appendix B of the base installation guide also lists the files affected in non ALL-IN-1 directories ie. not pointed at by an OA$* logical. So this tells me what else I need to recover in SYS$LIBRARY, SYS$MESSAGE, SYS$SYSTEM, SYS$STARTUP and SYS$SYSDEVICE:[LCI.LEXICONS]. I imagine this covers 99% of changes, but its that last 1% I need to know about. Listed below are some of these other files I think will have changed. Have I missed any ?? Thanks in advance, John Files per-user: WPSDEF.WPL DOCDB.DAT DAF.DAT (?) ATTENDEE.DAT (?)

The installation doesn't change *any* files in the user directories! Any conversions (e.g. Nicknames) or creations (e.g. FILECAB.DAT) are done the first time the user logs in. Hence you don't need to restore these. Also, you shouldn't need to take the stuff in LCI$LEXICONS away, since it wasn't used by V2.4. Similarly in SYS$SHARE,MESSAGE etc, you don't need to remove any OAFC* new stuff brought in for the FCS. Good Luck, Graham PS Of course, I'd say that you are wasting your time considering that the installation could possibly fail :-) |
