1560.0. "V2.4/V3.0 File Cabinet Server / Teamlinks cluster questions" by SLICER::ROD (Paradise Awaits!) Mon Oct 05 1992 23:31

I have a customer with ALL-IN-1 V2.4 on one node within a cluster.
They are interested in TeamLinks, but would like the File Cabinet
Server to run on another node, not having ALL-IN-1. I've seen where
FCS uses some logicals/etc. of IOS. Questions:

    1.	Is IOS required to be licensed and running on the same node as FCS
        in a cluster?

    2.	In IOS V3.0, can the integrated FCS be run by itself without IOS.

    3.	If those required logicals were defined, would it work, or would
there be other problems? What would they be?

    Thanks for your help

    >1.	Is IOS required to be licensed and running on the same node as FCS
    > in a cluster?

Nope, not from an FCS point of view. As far as the FCS is concerned
a cluster is a single partition and all nodes are equal.

    >2.	In IOS V3.0, can the integrated FCS be run by itself without IOS.

    Nope, not at this time.

    >3.	If those required logicals were defined, would it work, or would
    > there be other problems? What would they be?

    Technically it would work if:

    	1) You had all the required IOS files in the proper place
    	2) Had all the IOS logicals pointing to the proper place
    	3) Could figure out a way to manage the FCS without the IOS UI

Basically what you are asking is possible but highly unsupported and
    strongly advised against.

Further to .1, which covers the technical aspects of your question...

From a licensing view, I believe that there is no license currently
available which allows FCS only to run on a node. I.e., ALL-IN-1
must be licensed on the node in order to run FCS.

As of July, 1992, you do not have to have the whole cluster licensed
for ALL-IN-1. That is, it's OK to get licenses for just the nodes
which will run ALL-IN-1. However, you must have a license for ALL-IN-1
even if all you want to run is a subset of the product like FCS.
