1467.0. "System Distribution List problem" by MXOJCG::JGARCIA (Don't Panic) Tue Sep 22 1992 05:27

ALL-IN-1 V2.4 (two languages English/Spanish)
K603 patch
WPS-PLUS V4.1 (OAW024)
ALL-IN-1 desktop server V1.1

I have a customer with the following problem when he try to use the system
distribution lists in the spanish version:

After the ALL-IN-1 administrator/manager creates a system distribution list,
this one can't be edited, read or indexed, receiving a message that says that
the distribution list doesn't exist. The message is EMD-W-DISNOTEXST.

Nevertheless the users can add the distribution list in the TO: and CC: fields
when they try to send a message (it's seen like a remote destination), but the
message never gets to the recipients in the distribution list and the
following message is displayed (translated from spanish):

	OA-W-COM error opening command file
	  DUA3:[ALLIN1.LIB_SHARE]LISTA-CORR.COM
	RMS-E-FNF file not found
EMA-I-MESSENT the message has been sent

I tried to find the script file both in the english and spanish versions
directories but it isn't anywhere.

Another thing is that the name of the system distribution lists folder for the
spanish version is:

	listas de distribucion del sis
                                      ^^^^^^
				      tema

looks like the folder name was too long (listas de distribucion del sistema)
and was truncated. I don't know if this can be a problem.

Note: This happened only when they enter in the spanish language. In the
english version it doesn't happen, of course the users only can use the system
distribution lists if they use the english version of ALL-IN-1 (the main
problem is that they never enter into this mode). Also there isn't problem with
personal distribution list in both languages.

Any clue?

Thanks,
Juan Carlos.

1467.1Check /LANG on PROFIL and symbol in OALLVIOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeTue Sep 22 1992 10:5632
The missing command procedure "LISTA-CORR" is presumably the Spanish
translation for distribution list. System distribution lists are held
as records in the profile file, and the MAIDES field is set to the
local language name of distribution lists. In English this is
    "MAIL-LIST".

If you look in the named data for the MAIDES field on the PROFIL form,
there should be a /LANGUAGE which will translate the Spanish name into
English. I don't know the rest of the Spanish words (which i've left in
lower case) but it should be something like this:

    	/LANGUAGE="no mail,LISTA-CORR,printer,hard-copy,paper mail/NO MAIL,
    	MAIL-LIST,PRINTER,HARD-COPY,PAPER MAIL"

There is also a symbol (OA$GT_MAIDES_MLIST) in OALLV.BLI which should
be set to the same value i.e. "LISTA-CORR".

Are these right on your system?

Personal distribution lists are done completely differently, so the
fact that they are working doesn't help. They are just local file
    cabinet entries.

I don't think that the name of the folder being cut short matters
either - It just doesn't look very nice!

    Cheers,

    Graham

PS I reformatted your base note because all the lines were too long for
    the screen!
1467.2Differences in form PROFIL and OALLV.BLIMXOJCG::JGARCIADon't PanicWed Sep 23 1992 03:4421
Hello Graham,

I review the name data of the form PROFIL and I saw that there
wasn't any translation to spanish. This is what I saw:

  /LANGUAGE="no mail,mail-list,printer,hard-copy,paper mail/NO MAIL,
   MAIL-LIST,PRINTER,HARD-COPY,PAPER MAIL"

In [SPANISH.LLV_SPANISH]OALLV.BLI are all the OA$GT_MAIDES symbols
with the correct translation.

What I have to do? Modify the form PROFIL and add the spanish words?
Should I have to relink something?

It's there a limitation in the size of the words?, because the message
that I received was LISTA-CORR and the word in OALLV.BLI is
LISTA-CORREO.

Thanks and regards.

    Hello Juan Carlos,

here is what I can contribute:
I don't have access to V2.4 Spanish, but since we just translated V3 to
Spanish I can give you the information what things look like in V3.0:

    - OA$GT_MAIDES_MLIST in OALLV.BLI contains "LISTA-CORREO"

    - wherever it appears in message files, it's also called "LISTA-CORREO"

    - the /LANGUAGE part in PROFIL.FLX is translated, i.e.
    	/LANGUAGE="SIN CORREO, LISTA-CORREO, .... /NO MAIL, MAIL-LIST, ..."

Looks like you can fix it by translating the first part of the strings
in the /LANGUAGE qualifier of form PROFIL.

1467.4Make them the same (I think..)IOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeWed Sep 23 1992 10:4915
Well I would normally say that the PROFIL /LANGUAGE must match the
    words in OALLV.BLI exactly.

However any words on the left side of the /LANGUAGE that are too long
for the field will get truncated when they are displayed. But if you
use <GET to pick up the field, you get the whole value.

I'm not sure without some further research what happens in the case of
    the mail code!

Try changing your PROFIL /LANGUAGE to match the OALLV values and see
what happens. This is easier to test, since you need a BLISS compiler
and to do a relink to test anything else!
