1460.0. "Xfer user 2.3 ---> 2.4 Questions" by SCAMIN::BROWN (Jackie Brown - Tampa, FL) Mon Sep 21 1992 17:38

Hi,

I have a customer who is running ALL-IN-1 V2.3 on all machines; one of the CPU's
will be upgraded to run 2.4 and they need to transfer some of the users from
one of the 2.3 systems to the 2.4 system. I understand from the CSC that the
patches 601-604 need to be installed on the 2.4 system for this to work.

The customer has the following questions:

	1. does the transfer cover the mail shared area messages?
	2. what about the calendar files and meeting notices?
	3. is there any cleanup done after the transfer?

any help is always appreciated,

Hi,

Why not upgrade to V3.0?

Can't comment on this.

>> 1. does the transfer cover the mail shared area messages?

Yes.

>> 2. what about the calendar files and meeting notices?

Meeting notices are just mail messages, so they will be transferred. Calendar
information is not transferred though.

>> 3. is there any cleanup done after the transfer?

The original account is left locked and (without going into details) in an
unusable condition. It can be deleted with the usual "SM MUA D" stuff.

Assuming the transfer works, there should be no further cleaning up needed.
However, if it fails, be very careful what you do next, or you could get the
account into an unrecoverable mess.

1460.2V3.0? not ready yet...SCAMIN::BROWNJackie Brown - Tampa, FLTue Sep 22 1992 15:478
Scott,

thank you for your quick reply. The reason they must go to 2.4 on one particular
system is that it is being hardware upgraded and must run VMS 5.5. The account
is nowhere near ready for V3.0 yet. I'm trying to move them in that direction
as quickly as possible.... but politics, politics, politics...

    Jackie,

    There is an important v2.3 to v2.4 Transfer User bug that is fixed in
    K604 which is why you were advised by the CSC to install the patches.

    Regards,
