1404.0. "TEamLinks Project Potential, reply here" by AZUR::GEERDES (Ben Geerdes) Mon Sep 14 1992 11:36

I am cross posting the following note from the OISCC conference
in this conference and the TeamLinks conference.
Try to look beyond direct customer feedback too (which is very
important , dont get me wrong). The what if we had....
quetions is something I am interested in (imagine we could ...) as well as
    what our customers require now.

If you have a project opportunity where we could be of help, specially
when the size and scope would go beyond what the local office
can do and manage, dont hesitate to contact me.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TeamLinks has been positioned as a customizable office product
based on Visual Basic. Based on an initial study done in Charlotte,
it was recommended NOT to release the sources to customers.
There were several reasons for it (not in order of importance):

    		1) Limitations of Visual Basic itself
    		2) No 'Customization Management'
    		3) The callable interface to the different subsystems
(mail, teamroute and filecabinet) is at a level
closer to 'C' programming than to ALL-IN-1 Script
    		   programming.
    		4) Support problems

However its clear that the product will sell in environments
where customizations are critical for the success of the product.
Several steps were taken to address that need , the Integrators
Workbench being one of them and a possible training in the near
    	future by Turin another one.

Our group (the EIC in Valbonne) is very interested in potential
projects related to the Office and Telecommunication environment
and I specifically in projects related to TeamLinks and ALL-IN-1 IOS.

I would like to understand how big the project potential of the
TeamLinks product is, and would ask everybody to reply on this note
with information that describes that potential.
Do you know of any customers that will purchase or are interested in
purchasing TeamLinks, will they need customizations, what kind
of customizations, how would you estimate the size of such a
project (in $), What is the kind of customizations they are looking
    	for.

Also think of possible prototypes that may convince customers to buy
Teamlinks or buy a customization project.
I also would like to hear from you when you have ideas for
customizations, thinks that are an absolute must , or thinks that you
say would be really neat if we could do and show. Or maybe just those
things that are obvious some customers will ask for and are 'easy'
to do and we can not expect a customer to pay for it.

	Thanks

    		Ben
