ALL-IN-1 V2.4 with V2.3 scripts still active (probably) VMS V5.3 For most of the accounts established for ALL-IN-1, the customer has defined the default printer destination to be NL:. Within the printer configuration of the ALL-IN-1 manager a printer type NL: has been defined with all fields blank. Users are creating messages with PAPER MAIL and HARD-COPY addressees which generates username.lis files in the [OA] directory. Because the default printer destination is NL:, the files are created, nothing is printed and the files remain. These files remain until the user or someone with sysprv cleans up the disk. Customer would like to know if there is a way to "do nothing" with this configuration. If a PAPER MAIL or HARD-COPY addressee is encountered and the user has specified NL: or blank, no copy is printed, no files are created, but other addressees are sent the message. I don't know why they would want this set up this way. I don't know why it was set up this way. I don't know why the user would have such an addressee, if nothing were to occur. Go figure... But we are here to please... Question: Based on the described configuration above, even though the NL: printer type has a blank destination, should not the temporary files created by the PAPER MAIL or HARD-COPY addressee, be deleted during the process? Thanks... Bill

The easiest solution to this is to point out to the customer the stupidity of having MAIDES = PAPER MAIL when PRINTER = NL: Make them change all the PAPER MAIL settings to NO MAIL, if that is really what they want. It doesn't surprise me at all that ALL-IN-1 has problems with such a daft setup. Quite frankly, I think ALL-IN-1 does the best it can: creates a list file, then can't do anything with it so leaves it there. If ALL-IN-1 deleted the file, we'd no doubt get CLDs about data loss (ie the mail appears to have been sent (no non-delivery message) but hasn't arrived anywhere), so I don't think we can win here.
