1381.0. "GPC "invalid context block" msgs" by OASS::ADAMS_S (Junior Walker and the All-Stars) Wed Sep 09 1992 17:26

A customer completed 700 account transfers from one cluster
to another on a network where they upgraded a node to ALL-IN-1 V3.0.
When they tried to modify conference details or remove conferences
under GPC to change references to the new DISK, they got "invalid
context block" or "invalid context block address" messages (the
latter when they tried to remove conferences).

However, they could go into VAXnotes V2.2 and make the modifications
with no problem and then go into GPC and everything was updated
    perfectly.

Since this was a network transfer of files from ALL-IN-1 V2.4 to V3.0
it was not a smooth process but they finally got everything up and
    running successfully under ALL-IN-1 V3.0.

Any ideas on what could have caused the errors in GPC?

    Thank you in advance.

1381.2Any progress on this problem ?BUSHIE::SETHIWed Sep 08 1993 06:4512
    Hi Tony,

Near enough a year down the line I have just had a call logged with the
exact same error message. The customer has ALL-IN-1 IOS 3.0 and
    VAXnotes 2.4.

The customer can access Notes via DCL but not ALL-IN-1 IOS. Has this
been SPR'd ? Is there away around this problem ?

    Regards,

Some fixes have been made recently, but maybe not for this problem. A
quick look at the open bugs list for GPC doesn't reveal anything that
looks related, so maybe the SPR never arrived?

The only workaround I can think of right now is to fix everything from
the DCL/VT client before attempting to access the conferences via
    ALL-IN-1.

1381.4The problem seems to gone away by magic !!!BUSHIE::SETHIFri Sep 10 1993 03:1822
    Hi Tony,

    >The only workaround I can think of right now is to fix everything from
    >the DCL/VT client before attempting to access the conferences via ALL-IN-1.

The only problem with this is that it all works fine from OpenVMS but
not ALL-IN-1 IOS. So I can't fix the problem because we do not have a
problem with the VT interface. It diffinately points to a problem with
the ALL-IN-1 IOS UI and I have not got a clue as to what an "invalid
context block" is. If you can let me know that I can start looking at
    possible cause of the problem.

Today I asked the customer if I can get a trace and he tried to
reproduce the problem and you have guessed it. By magic it all started
working and the customer assures me that he has not changed anything.
Maybe it the luck of the Irish that has solved the problem !!! If I can
get any more information to help you let me know, I will be monitoring
the call in the mean while.

    Regards,

By "fixing from VT" I meant that the customer should fix the conference
file entries with the VT MODIFY CONFERENCE/FILE= command and see if
that makes any difference to GPC...
