1341.0. "OA$LOG_TO_FILE function, mailbox size" by USHS09::REINDL (The Duckbilled Platypus has no Navel) Tue Sep 01 1992 22:18

This is a wish! Could a couple of logicals, or ALL-IN-1 system
symbols, or whatever, be created, which specify the message size and
quota for some of the VMS mailboxes which ALL-IN-1 creates? The example
below (which happens at a customer site) might help explain why this
    might be a neat feature.

The OA$LOG_TO_FILE function logs information on what users are doing
in ALL-IN-1, on a system, to a file. To do this ALL-IN-1 writes the user
stuff to a VMS mailbox which is periodically dumped to a file. Well on
a large system, with say 200 concurrent users, the mailbox needs to be
rather large to avoid loosing information. When ALL-IN-1 creates the
mailbox it uses the system defaults (specified by the SYSGEN parameters
DEFMBXBUFQUO, and DEFMBXMXMSG) for the mailbox message length and
quota, so they have to be set very large. Having the system parameters
that large causes all mailboxes using defaults to get created that large.
Of course that consumes lots of resources, some of which other
processes don't need (or maybe want). Just look at the mailboxes for
a user's ALL-IN-1 main and sub-process and you get the idea. (I know
that there's really no need to use the sub-process with the new V3.0
features ;-) it's just an example).

Does anyone think this could be done as a patch or as part of some
    future unannounced and unspecified release??

    Henry,

Official Support is done using SPRs, this notes-file is more of an
unofficial channel and does not guarantee anything.

if your customer wants this to be considered for inclusion in a
possible future release then see note 10 in this conference.
