1327.0. "Cancel of deferred message takes too long" by KAOFS::D_STREET () Thu Aug 27 1992 20:27

    Hello,
I have a client who is concerned about the length of time it takes
some users to cancel a deferred mail message. The culprit appears to be
the number of documents in the users file cab. It appears that the
procedure searches the entire CAB$ for documents with a .MAIL_STATUS =
SENT, then checks the .DELIVERED, and .DELIVERY respectivly. The client
feels there could be a faster way, as some users have to wait a very
long time to get the message deleted (Like 10 min).

Is there an explaination that will satisfy them that this is the
    "RIGHT" way to do it?

Sorry, I forgot to mention V2.4 of ALL-IN-1.

The problem stems from the fact that the sender can refile the deferred
message into any folder, so ALL-IN-1 has to go and look for it. I suppose a
different approach would be to search the sender queue first, looking for
deferred mail and then try and find them in the sender's FileCab - but that
would penalise users with small FCs on sites with large queues!

I'm sure if the customer could come up with a suggestion, those helpful people
in IOSG would consider it gratefully!

ps	Thinking about this a bit, maybe the CAN option could be enhanced to
work on a selected message? i.e. make the sender find it first and then
just tell ALL-IN-1 to go and find that message on the queue?

RE: .2

Graham, that's the way I had always tried to make CAN work, by selecting the
document (*I* know where I filed it!) and then expecting CAN to just cancel
this document's deferral. As you are aware, that's not how it's implemented!

Maybe today's CAN should be CSM (Cancel Some Message) and CAN then could work
on the current document only. If CAN is used and the current document isn't
deferred, display a nice message.

Since you DEF the current document and CAN is grouped on the menu with DEF, CAN
should operate on the current document. So much for intuitive UI.
