1324.0. "Multi column read different when attachment" by LEMAN::PUNKIE::REGINA (Carrie's in the carrot land) Thu Aug 27 1992 14:24

I created a text in multi-column. When finished I did a read from WP
and it looked just fine. Then I attached the file to an unsent mail
message and did a read on the mail. Unfortunately my multicolumn in the
attachment is displayed one column per page.

I thought a read functions like a print, why is it not the same for an
attachment?

Thanks

1324.1Read is not always like a PrintIOSG::NEWLANDRichard Newland, IOSG, REO1-D/4AThu Aug 27 1992 16:2418
A Read does not always function like a Print. You did not say whcih
version of ALL-IN-1 you are using but in V3.0 the differences depend on
whether you are reading a Document or a Message.

When reading a Document ALL-IN-1 will format the document and display the
resulting formatted output. For a WPS-PLUS document the WPS-PLUS formatter
will be used, which results in multiple columns, etc. being formatted.

When reading a Message ALL-IN-1 reads the message and all attachments
through the Compound Document text dataset. The messages and attachments
are not formatted, which is why in the case of a WPS-PLUS attachment the
multiple columns are not formatted.

If you want to display a message and it's attachments with full formatting you
can do a Print to TERMINAL.
