***** Multiple comments in Control Blocks ***** Hi, Using WPS (V3.1?) under ALL-IN-1 V2.3 produced different results than now being experienced when testing under ALL-IN-1 V3.0 (V4.1 WPS). Can anyone suggest if this expected/modifiable/avoidable ?? Before I start, can I assure you that The customer really is 100% certain that they could end up with what I am about to describe (I doubted it too !!) as it happens under program control. ALL-IN-1 V2.3 Have a document with ---------------- NEW PAGE ------------------ --------------- START CONTROL -------------- COMMENT Hello John --------------- START CONTROL -------------- COMMENT Bye John --------------- END CONTROL ---------------- --------------- END CONTROL ---------------- Text of the document When you read this all you will see is Text of the document ie. both comments are honoured. ALL-IN-1 V3.0 Have a document with ---------------- NEW PAGE ------------------ --------------- START CONTROL -------------- COMMENT Hello John --------------- START CONTROL -------------- COMMENT Bye John --------------- END CONTROL ---------------- --------------- END CONTROL ---------------- Text of the document When you read this all you will see is COMMENT Bye John Text of the document ie. Only one comment honoured I know it seems improbable but they assure me its a problem (for them). Any explanations for this ?? Regards, John (Cross-posted in WPS-Plus)

I think you get a better answer in the WPS-PLUS conference, but I'll take a shot anyway. It has never been legal to have nested control blocks. They must have gotten them that way by some chicanery, such as cutting and pasting. In WPS-PLUS V4.0, the Gold Command key was changed to insert both the start and end control command at the same time. No doubt, some checking is now done to prevent this kind of situation. I think that WPS-PLUS was probably just ignoring the second start control, since it is a binary condition. Having missing end or start lines can really confuse the heck out of a user, since the system will not paginate or print a control block. I think this is one of those situations where the customer did something he shouldn't have, and now we won't let him do it anymore. Ben |
