1304.1 | Look at the listing file | IOSG::NEWLAND | Richard Newland, IOSG, REO1-D/4A | Mon Aug 24 1992 23:23 | 12 |
| It is possible to print WPS-PLUS documents with more than 132 characters.
The truncation of the lines to 132 characters could be occurring during
formatting, or when the listing file is printed because of queue or printer
device attributes. If you examine the listing file you should be able to
see if the lines of text are truncated to determine if it is a formatting
or printing problem.
Report back what you find and I will investigate further.

1304.2 | Seems to truncate | LAVGOD::ALLEN | I got free checking at BCCI | Tue Aug 25 1992 17:30 | 12 |

I've taken a look at the listing file and found that the number of
characters per line gets truncated at about 200 (the WPS+ document had
256 characters). When printed out to a postscript DEClaser, I get all
200 characters printed but with 105 characters on the first line -even
though there is more space for characters, and the remaining 95 or so
characters printed right beneath the first line. On a non-postscript
DEClaser, all I get is the first line of 105 characters and that's it.

1304.3 | What font? | IOSG::NEWLAND | Richard Newland, IOSG, REO1-D/4A | Tue Aug 25 1992 18:13 | 12 |
| What font are you using when printing to PostScript printers?
Using ALL-IN-1 V3.0/WPS-PLUS V4.1 I created a WPS-PLUS document with the
control block:
PRINTER FORMAT LANDSCAPE | PRINTER FONT 5_POINT_COURIER
and 256 character lines and each line was correctly printed on a PostScript
(LPS40) printer using A4 paper.

1304.4 | 8 Point courier I think | LAVGOD::ALLEN | I got free checking at BCCI | Wed Aug 26 1992 20:01 | 8 |

I believe the font is 8 point courier but I could be wrong. We are
using ALL-IN-1 V2.4 with WPS-Plus V3.0 (the version of WPS+ that comes
with A1 V2.4.
Can I get 256 characters printed on with WPS-Plus V3.0 and ALL-IN-1
V2.4?

1304.5 | V2.4 contained WPS-PLUS V3.1 | IOSG::NEWLAND | Richard Newland, IOSG, REO1-D/4A | Wed Aug 26 1992 21:52 | 50 |

The ALL-IN-1 V2.4 kit contains WPS-PLUS V3.1, but this can be upgraded to
V4.0 if you install the WPS-PLUS V4 Update kit.
You said in an earlier reply that you printed to a PostScript DEClaser
printer. Did you get the WPS-PLUS Formatter to generate PostScript because
only WPS-PLUS V4.0 can do this?
There is nothing in ALL-IN-1 V2.4 that prevents you from creating and
printing documents with 256 character lines. However, you must
1. Have an application that can create such documents, and in your
case the application is WPS-PLUS.
2. You must use a printer that is capable of printing 256 characters
on a line.
I don't have access to an ALL-IN-1 V2.4/WPS-PLUS V3.1 system to verify this
but I'm sure that a WPS-PLUS document with 256 character lines can be
created, and that the listing file created by the WPS-PLUS formatter
can contain 256 character lines.
If you are using the DEClaser printer in ANSI mode I believe that you are
limited to using the builtin fonts which are provided in the printer. It
may be the case that no builtin font is capable of printing 256 characters
on a line.
On an LN03 printer (which is similar to DEClaser in ANSI mode) the default
the font used in landscape mode has a vertical pitch of 13.2 which allows
132 characters over the 10 inch wide printable area.
> Can I get 256 characters printed on with WPS-Plus V3.0 and ALL-IN-1
> V2.4?
Yes, but only if the printer is able to do this.
I think that you may be running into limitations of the DEClaser printer
rather than limitations with either ALL-IN-1 or WPS-PLUS.

1304.6 | A feature . . . | WAYLND::HOWARD | Our business is computers not money | Wed Aug 26 1992 22:59 | 16 |
| You might want to pursue this in the WPS-PLUS conference. However, the
usual cause of this symptom is a line in the printer table, something
like
Maximum number of characters on a line for pitch 10 200
This will truncate the line at 200. If you raise the value to a much
higher number, it will stop doing it. This limitation was put in when
printers were mostly impact printers. You can make it as high as you
like now. You should use the printer table utility (PTU.EXE) to do the
changes.
With PostScript, you are using a different table, so the restriction is
not there.

| If you really mean an escape sequence, you might try in the printers,
LPS or terminals conferences. I'm afraid I don't knowe their names or
locations, but you can easily find them in EASYNOTES.LIS
