1301.0. "ACA Services Storage Classes to ALL-IN-1 File Cabinet." by TASTY::JEFFERY (I do not think you wanted to do that!) Mon Aug 24 1992 18:35

Hi,

I've looked in the ACA Services notes file, and haven't
seen anything.

Has anyone done ACA Services storage classes for the ALL-IN-1 file
cabinet.

As far as I can see, this opens up the File Cabinet to lots more
applications.

Is it tricky?

I know nothing about programming ALL-IN-1

Hi,

I have the ACA notes conferences in my notebook, and I will
probably ask there too.

Just thought I ought to ask here.

Sorry about the delay in answering:

If you are new to ALL-IN-1, do you know anything about the File
      Cabinet Server?

This is a separate application / program (bought as a part of
ALL-IN-1) that acts as the "go-between" between various clients and
the actual document storage in the ALL-IN-1 File Cabinet.

The clients can be other ALL-IN-1 systems distributed around the
network, or TeamLinks on Windows-3 today; DOS PC's, UNIX or VMS
workstations, other applications all possible in the future.

The specifications and API for the File Cabinet Server are probably
available to internal groups. They would allow your application to
not need to worry about the storage of the documents... just call the
FCS, and it could store your information into the File Cabinet. This
File Cabinet could then be fully distributed through the VAX
      network...
and if my desires of the future are anything to go by (!) then you
will be able to take advantage of a possible future ability of the
FCS to address different File Cabinet structures, and store some
documents in a File Cabinet on a UNIX system, some in Windows-NT, and
others in the "traditional" ALL-IN-1 File Cabinet.

From the users point of view, I need to specify a DRAWER, a FOLDER
and a DOCUMENT NAME - and the system stroes or retrieves my file as I
      want.
From the system point of view I can also specify the file type
(spreadsheet, mail, document, WPS-PLUS, Word for Windows, Lotus 1-2-3
etc etc); as well as various document reservation and locking
facilities. and security and access options.

Hope this helps....
It may not be exactly ACAS - but it is a true document server that
allows independance of the data storage (ALL-IN-1 File Cabinet) from
the application accessing it (remote ALL-IN-1 system or TeamLinks on
      a PC).
