1294.0. "GPC and Read Unseen (RU) - not setting notes to SEEN " by GIDDAY::SETHI (Man from Downunder) Mon Aug 24 1992 04:17

    G'day All,

The customer has the following configuration ALL-IN-1 IOS Version 3.0,
VAXnotes Version 2.1 and VMS Version 5.4-2. The customer has come
across a number of problems with GPC, the one that really "bugs" him
:-) is the RU option (Read unseen). I have managed to reproduce the
    problem on my system.

When the RU option is used it does not mark a topic/replies as seen.
    For example

     - go into Notes, (RU) Read unseen notes
     - exit Notes
     - later, go back into Notes ... see the same unseen notes!!!
     - repeat ad nauseam

Can someone confirm this is a misfeature please and if it's been SPR'd.
I will SPR it if required.

    Sunil

PS - I had to make the "bug" pun above could not help myself :-). Have
    a good day.

1294.1Known problemIOSG::NEWLANDRichard Newland, IOSG, REO1-D/4AMon Aug 24 1992 11:035
It's a known problem that might be fixed in a possible future update to
V3.0.

Richard

1294.2Problem still exists in V3.0-1 and V3.0AZUR01::WORK19::BURKHALTERRolf Burkhalter @RLEWed Jan 26 1994 09:4920
Hi

ALL-IN-1 V3.0-1
VAX Notes V2.1
GPC (Group Conferencing)

The problem described in .0 still exists in V3.0-1 and also in V3.0A.

If you read an unseen note, then exit GPC and ALL-IN-1 and reenter it, you
will see the same unseen note. The read topic/reply will not be correctly
marked as seen.

The release notes of V3.0-1 and V3.0A describe in point 2.6.3 that this
problem is solved in both versions, but it isn't.

Is this a known problem and is there any solution available?

Thanks in advance for any help

Rolf
1294.3The way we walkIOSG::MAURICEI left my heart in AlcatrazWed Jan 26 1994 10:0115
    Hi,

We fixed it in V3.1 (did I really say that - of course I should have
said PFR), by changing ALL-IN-1's exit code to ensure that the
    conference gets updated on exit.

A workround you may wish to try is to change the code for oa$_mo_exit
and oa$_mo_exit2 on form DEFAULT to have similar logic as on form
OAN$MENU1, so that it updates and closes a conference if there is one
open. This workround is not quite perfect as it is, for example,
    vulnerable to someone typing <BYE.

    Cheers

    Stuart
