1288.2 | DNS and VMS V5.4-1 | BRSDVP::WILLEMSH | | Fri Aug 21 1992 14:58 | 17 |
| Hai again,
I did check all the notes about DNS in the conferences ALLIN1, V23 and V24.
My real question is,
We have a system V5.5-1 with ALL-IN-1 V3.0 and DNS is not installed manually,
not in SYSTARTUP_V5 and not in SYSMAN. After rebooting the system, the DNS
images are installed anyway and ALL-IN-1 starts up just fine.
This customer runs VMS V5.4-1. Maybe this is the reason why DNS images are not
installed and that ALL-IN-1 V3.0 does not start correctly after the reboot.
Appreciate any help

1288.3 | STARTNET ? | UTRTSC::SCHOLLAERT | VivaceObjectTeamWorkLinks for IOS | Fri Aug 21 1992 15:31 | 14 |

Hello Hilde,
Running STARTNET.COM prior to A1V30START.COM can make the
difference.
Have a look at these lines from STARTNET....
$ IF .NOT. F$FILE_ATTRIBUTES("SYS$LIBRARY:DNS$SHARE.EXE","KNOWN") THEN -
$ INSTALL ADD SYS$LIBRARY:DNS$SHARE.EXE/SHARE/PROTECT/OPEN

1288.4 | They aren't ours, so we can't install them! | IOSG::PYE | Graham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's Apprentice | Fri Aug 21 1992 15:59 | 12 |
| Re .0, .1
I was thinking of the field test conference, where it was discussed,
although I can't believe it hasn't been discussed here too. But then, I
am getting old....
The Installation Guide specifies that the two DNS images are needed.
It would not be correct for ALL-IN-1 to install the images of another
product, and hence they are not in our startup.

There are installed in SYS$STARTUP:OAFC$STARTUP.COM, which
is invoke almost at the end of A1V30START. A little bit to
late.

1288.6 | start the DNS clerk at startup time?? | CHRLIE::HUSTON | | Fri Aug 21 1992 17:24 | 11 |

An easy fix for this is to run the DNS clerk startup as part of the
systartup_v5.com.
The FCS links against them and needs them installed. If you run the
dns$clerk_startup in sys$startup the images will be installed. Note
that this does some other things as well. If this is not suitable for
you then either run oafc$startup by hand or install the images by hand.

That's why I vote for just running STARTNET.COM. It installs
DNS$SHARE and thats enough for A1V3START.COM...
