1286.0. "Interactive Read Receipt Confirm?" by DEKVC::DAEHEEKIM () Fri Aug 21 1992 04:09

    Hello.

    As you know,we can confirm the Receiver's reading operation using
    Read receipt(managed by POSTMASTER).

    But I want to use the read-confirm interactively as follows.

    		INDEX OF OUTBOX
    ______________________________________________________________________
    NO.  SUBJECT                    OUT_DATE       RECEIVER   READ_CONFIRM
    ______________________________________________________________________

    1.   ********                   DD-MMM-YYYY    *******     Y/N

    .
    .
    _______________________________________________________________________

    Regards,

In the last column of your display, do you want to record that you have ASKED
for a read receipt, or that you have RECEIVED one?

If it's ASKED, then that's easy - just get the RR field from CAB$.

If you want to see if you've received a RR, then you've got a lot of work to
do! (You'd need an line for each recipient, and some sort of function which
can read each of your incoming messages and check to see if they're RRs and
who they're from. Unfortunately, ALL-IN-1 doesn't receive read receipts in
MRIF format - they arrive as ordinary text messages).

However, maybe someone's done all this already, so I'll move over.

1286.2Misunderstanding about previous request..Answer againDEKVC::DAEHEEKIMMon Aug 24 1992 02:2612
    Maybe there is a misunderstanding about my request.
    I want to display whether the Receiver read the mail or not,not whether
    I asked Read_Receipt or not.

    Until now , we requested READ_RECEIPT on each mail , and POSTMASTER
    send a read_receipt mail to the Original Author in the batch mode.

    But our customer asked me , how can they display the information
    - at least one of the Receivers read the mail or not - interactively
    without setting the READ_RECEIPT field 'YES'.

Well, it looks to me that the answer is No.

The only way of discovering if a recipient has read a message (and this is not
fully accurate anyway) is to ask for a read-receipt and then get one. If mail
is going out via Message Router, how does the customer think you can get
interactive access?

If the customer is worried that the sender should not HAVE to set read-receipt
request, then you can customise the mail header forms so that Y is the
default. But you will still have the problem of matching the read recepit
with the message which asked for it.

Sorry (I hope I've understood what you are asking for)

    	Am I mixing this up, or is this the X.400 read receipt collation
    	feature? If so, you'll possibly get it if we possibly were to
    	support all the X.400 features in a possible future release.

1286.5It has been done, somewhereIOSG::SHOVEDave Shove -- REO-D/3CTue Aug 25 1992 17:319
    Someone has done this (provide a reciept correlation feature using our
    current read receipts).

    Sorry, but I can't remeber who - it was mentioned at a US DECUS some
    time ago.

    Maybe this will jog someone's memory?
