1255.0. "VMS 5.5 and ALL-IN-1 2.4-1" by VCOU03::ASHWORTH (Lost on an island) Mon Aug 17 1992 19:47

HI,

This coming weekend my customer is upgrading to VMS 5.5-1, and according to
note 6.5, we should have ALL-IN-1 upto 2.4-1. The problem is, I can't figure out
if that is the version on the system.

What was included in 2.4-1 and how do I find out if it is already installed.

Thanx, Neil

Try typing VERSION while in ALL-IN-1.

Handy little function call!

The result is ALL-IN-1 2.4 BL8 27-APR-1990 WPSPLUS 4.0

Can I make the assumption that version 2.4-1 would appear as such? Also did 2.4-1
come as an update kit, and was it superceded by the 2.4A kit?

Thanx, Neil
1255.3No .1 is not the safest/best wayAIMTEC::WICKS_AIt wasn't supposed to end this wayMon Aug 17 1992 20:5418
I'm not about to get into the numbering scheme for ALL-IN-1 patches
for v2.4 as it's very confusing and you certainly can't make
assumptions about what supersedes what as some of them used the same
    letter/number for identification.

The 'supported' way to check what patches are on your system is
    to $TYPE the file A1PATCH$CONFIGURATION.DAT in OA$BUILD_SHARE.
(<VERSION is not a good idea as only 1 of the 7 patches changes this)

The 'patches' appear as K numbers K601 to K605
    The WPS-PLUS v4 option appears as A001

If you don't have K604 or K605 in this list you will want to obtain
    soon.

Ok, let me put it this way. If we go to K605, is my customer's configuration
supported after he goes to VMS 5.5-1?

    Hello Neil,

According to 6.5 even 2.3 is certified on VMS 5.5-1.

A would suggest installing CSCPAT_1012. Contains
    additional fixing to q-manager.

The July CD seems to have two new entries for ALL-IN-1:

******************************
SYS$SYSDEVICE:[SYSPUBLIC]CDMASTER_INDEX.TXT;6

        ALL-IN-1 V2.4 PATCH 2.4E AAAAA New 1 [A1024PAT022]

        ALL-IN-1 V2.4 UPDATE 2.4A AAAAB New 1 [A1024SUS020]

I guess one would have to do some reading to find out which one is the
latest. No B-D? I used to understand this stuff.

    Re .last two,

Didn't I say in an earlier note that noone human could possible
understand this stuff (:==:) - the customers certainly don't.

As well as Jan's two v2.4E there are actually also two v2.4A things
    also.

    P.S trick question - what is A001?

Hello all,

I would say: stick to the saveset names. A1024SUS020 and A1024PAT022
which are on the CD are all you need to get a fully patch system.
Substract the release notes. They will tell you the true story.
The rest is obsolete.

The version number of a PAT tells you which SUS you need. A SUS
contains all PAT's of a lower version.

In Holland we call this an "Ezelsbruggetje". Perhaps Andrew can
ask Simon what the English translations is.

A001 = V2.40 = the WPS-PLUS OPTION, but tell me what is A002 ?
I have a cold pack of Hoegaarden Grand Cru for the winner.

Regards,

Jan

From the release notes it appears that the A1024PAT022 is K604 and
K605. The cover letter has not been updated, although somebody made a
copy of it and called it COVER_LETTER2 or something. A listing of the
savesets seems to confirm the release notes. This agrees with what Jan
    says in .11. Install A1024SUS020 then A1024PAT022.

Nowhere in any of the documentation for these kits is there a string
    A002.
