1191.0. "FWP Option in V3.0, WP" by POBOX::OSBURN () Wed Aug 05 1992 20:00

    Can anyone tell me in ALL-IN-1 3.0 there is an option under WP which is
    FWP - Format to WPS-PLUS does to a document? I thought perhaps it was
    another way to convert a document from ASCII to WPS however, when I
    tried to do that ALL-IN-1 gave me a message that the document must be
    in WPS-PLUS format.  Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Laura,

    It would appear that you have discovered an "undocumented function"
    since this menu option does not appear in either the ALL-IN-1
    documentation set nor in Help - this is definitely worth an SPR so
    the oversight can be corrected in a PFR.

1191.2FWP creates a WPS-PLUS documentIOSG::NEWLANDRichard Newland, IOSG, REO1-D/4AWed Aug 05 1992 23:2314
The FWP (Format to WPS-PLUS) option performs the same operation as a Print
to DOCUMENT in WPS-PLUS/VMS V4.

A 'Print to DOCUMENT' changed from WPS-PLUS/VMS V3.1 to V4.0. In V3.1 it
did the same as in ALL-IN-1 V2.4 which was to create a final-form document.
In V4.0 it creates a WPS-PLUS revisable document containing the formatted
output.

ALL-IN-1 could not change Print to DOCUMENT so we added the FWP option in
order to provide this WPS-PLUS functionality. As you have found it
requires that the selected document has a data type of WPS-PLUS.

    Can you give me an example of when you would want a 'Print to DOCUMENT'
    or FWP. I need a practical application to share with students.

    Is there any way to tell which format it is in, e.g., revisable or
    final format? Show Status is no help.

    Thanks,

1191.4Uses of Print to DOCUMENTIOSG::NEWLANDRichard Newland, IOSG, REO1-D/4AThu Aug 06 1992 23:2627
An ALL-IN-1 Print to DOCUMENT allows a user to create a final form document
which is stored in their file cabinet.

A possible use is that you need to send a final form of a document because
some remote systems do not have the required formatter to create such
documents. Compare this with sending a revisable document such as WPS-PLUS
which assumes that the remote system has the WPS-PLUS formatter which must
be used to print the document.

In ALL-IN-1 V3.0 there is a new option called FMD (Format Document) which
formats a revisable document to create a final form file. FMD is similar
to Print to DOCUMENT but only only formats the main document.

A Print to DOCUMENT will format and/or convert the main document and all
attachments and append the output into a single document of the specified
final-form format.

GOLD-VIEW on the WP, EM, DT and FC menus will display a form which shows
the data type and handling of the selected document. You can also do
GOLD-VIEW on an index menu. The display doesn't specifically show that
it is revisable or final-form. For example, ASCII or WPS-PLUS are
revisable formats, and LN03 and PS (PostScript) are final-form.
