1171.0. "Post-instal horrors" by GIDDAY::BURT (Chele Burt - CSC Sydney, DTN 7355693) Tue Aug 04 1992 09:02
Hi all,
Customer having problems with instal of ALL-IN-1 V3.0 (British)
The main problems with this upgrade/instal is that
1. The customer doesn't really know what he's doing
- has little or no ALL-IN-1 experience
2. I don't really know what he's done.
Quite a few problems in the log...
Message Router does not appear to be configured correctly, if at all.
Extract from V3 instal log reads:
%MROUTER-E-BADINITFILE, error on initialization file
-SYSTEM-W-NOSUCHDEV, no such device available
-RMS-F-DEV, error in device name or inappropriate device type for operation
%DCL-W-SKPDAT, image data (records not beginning with "$" ) ignored
When I asked the customer to run MRMAN, he had an error
%MROUTER-BADINITFILE_ERROR ON INTITIALIZATION FILE
1 page of errors in the logfile after the start of the local File Cabinet
Server

Eventually determined that "something" in the previous upgrade had failed, so
the customer performed a "virgin" instal.
Tried manually seeding a couple of users file cabinets after re-creating their
profiles, and stopping/restarting FCS.
Unable to create new drawers "no drawer owner specified"
SYS$MANAGER:OAFC$SERVER (I suspect this came from the manual seed) has
MCC-E-ALERT_TERMREQ
THREAD TERMINATION REQUESTED MESSAGE: SRV TIMEOUT SYSMAN;
RECEIVE ALERT TO TERMINATE THREAD
Thanks and regards,
Chele

re FCS problems
THe FCS problems he is seeing are probably caused by the user
attempting to do the partition seed does not hold the OAFC$SYSMAN
rights ID.
>SYS$MANAGER:OAFC$SERVER (I suspect this came from the manual seed) has
> MCC-E-ALERT_TERMREQ
> THREAD TERMINATION REQUESTED MESSAGE: SRV TIMEOUT SYSMAN;
> RECEIVE ALERT TO TERMINATE THREAD
This simply means that the system managemnt connection that was created
when the part seed was attempted, this connection timed out as all
unused system management connections do. Not a problem.

1171.2 | MR installed or configured wrong | AIMTEC::WICKS_A | DEC Mail Works for ME sometimes | Tue Aug 04 1992 23:44 | 8 |
| Chele,
re. MR problems - they definitely don't have Message Router Installed
properly or configured - that'll take a bit of fixing.
