1153.0. "Area Routing / Node appended to address" by COSME3::SYSTEM () Fri Jul 31 1992 09:29

ALL-IN-1 V2.4 (Not patched)
Message Router V3.2
WPCORP/A1 Integration V2.01
DDS (Prime=1)
Area Routing used (OA$MTI_AREA set to A1@COSME3@RHC)

I send a message that contains 1 local addressee and 1 remote addressee. The
message is sent first class.

The the message is received by the remote addressee, the sender's name has had
the local node appended to it:

SMITH_P@COSME3

When a reply is sent, a non-delivery is generated; the senders address should
say (shouldn't it?):

SMITH_P@A1@COSME3@RHC

... ie. the with the Area Routing Code appended.

Also, any local addressees in the message also have the node appended. This
means that a reply also fails for these as it tries to sent to MR, and fails as
the address is incorrect.

Why is the node name being appended, instead of the area routing code? Why is
the node name even being appended to local addressees?

All help appreciated.

David.

Yes, David, it should.

OA$MTI_AREA should be defined in the SYSTEM table, as /EXEC, on ALL nodes of
the cluster which run ALL-IN-1.

Any chance this might not have been completely true when the message was sent?

Er, sorry about the beginning of that - what I should have said is that the
value of OA$MTI_AREA should be appended to the sender's name and all local
recipients so that reply to all will work.

The other possibility is that the recipient's node doesn't have the area code
defined to MR - if you still can't see a problem, please post the addresses
and the non-delivery itself.

    GASH,

Um since the system is using DDS isn't it the value of
OA$DDS_AREA_ROUTE that gets appended to the from field.

OA$MTI_AREA is only used on OA$DDS_PRIME = 0 systems since oh about
    1988.

    Re .0,

what is the value of OA$DDS_AREA_ROUTE, go to the EM menu and do a
    <GET on it.

Well, I defined OA$MTI_AREA, and the next day (after a re-boot, natch)
    all was OK.

Symbol OA$DDS_AREA_ROUTE is @A1@COSME3@RHC. Replies to mail messages
are now getting through, so all seems to be OK - it has the area routing
code appended to the sender's name.

    Thanks for all you help.

    David.
